2022 DB class continuing to grow

The 2022 Defensive Back class in the state of Mississippi appears to be one of the strongest in recent years. As spring ball has arrived and summer draws more near every day, the class is continuing to add names. <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/jalen-nelson/">[player_tooltip player_id="126080" first="Jalen" last="Nelson"]</a> | Northwest Rankin Nelson was named a 2nd team All-State player in 6A as a junior and appears primed for a big 2021 season. The Rankin County native made nearly 50 tackles from his CB position as well as led the team with 12 PD’s to go along with 2 INT’s in 2020. Nelson has a wiry, athletic build and good fluidity throughout his body. He is a natural fit in the secondary both athletically and physically with potential moving forward at both the corner and safety positions. Good footwork and change of direction skills highlight the tape for Nelson. Speed and agility allow him to stick tight in man to man coverage. The track star should have options available when it comes time to make a college decision. <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/zaquarrius-cobbs/">[player_tooltip player_id="104535" first="Zaquarrius" last="Cobbs"]</a> | Grenada A safety type that has his own fair share of athletic ability can be found in Cobbs. Cobbs runs well and displays ability to cover both in man to man as well as zone. The 2022 Grenada grad steps up nicely in run defense and has value in that area. Cobbs has a good feel for the game and always seems to be where he needs to be. Raw talent is abound here, with work over the next few important months Cobbs could be the type of guy that pops up out of nowhere during the fall. <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/quintin-sterling/">[player_tooltip player_id="104538" first="Quintin" last="Sterling"]</a> | Oak Grove A key on the defensive side of the ball in winning the 2020 6A state title, Sterling should have recruiting buzz circulating his name already. The Warriors defensive back went for nearly 100 tackles during his junior campaign to go along with 4 fumble recoveries and an INT. Sterling will project as a safety at the next level due to his value in both run and pass defense. The Oak Grove star plays with a looseness throughout and controls his body exceptionally well. Sterling baits throws out of QB’s due to his vision and feel for the game. Frame-wise, Sterling has length that scouts and coaches love as well as twitch athletically that is hard to coach. Expect to hear of this senior secondary member leading the Warriors on another deep run in the next year. &nbsp;
