A general in his own right while on the football field, someone who can orchestrate an offense with the physical and mental ability to make dynamic plays happen throughout four quarters of a game.
The ability to have the arm strength and accuracy to place the ball over great distances and into the hands of the receiver, who is sometimes heavily covered by an opposing defensive player.
The quarterback position has evolved over the years, starting to see more of a dynamic athlete behind center with having the ability to make throws from different arm angles and outside the pocket with accuracy and touch on them to make explosive plays.
Let’s take a look at five 2022 quarterbacks from the state of New Jersey!
Steve Angeli 6-3 215 Bergen Catholic High School
This dynamic gunslinger (and Notre Dame commit) has a tight compact release and gets the ball out quickly to his receivers in tight windows. He has good awareness and allows his receivers to create separation downfield which enables him to make key throws on the run. Has a strong arm to make different throws from all spots of the field with confindace and accuracy.
Donovan Leary Donovan Leary 6'2" | QB Timber Creek | 2022 State NJ 6-3 205 Timber Creek Regional High School
The Illinois commit has a strong presence in the pocket, showing the ability to step up and move around to avoid pressure to make a throw when his mechanics are rushed with good accuracy. The one thing that really stands from his film is his big time arm strength, he shows the ability to place with good touch and accuracy downfield.
Peter Delaportas Peter Delaportas 6'4" | QB Pope John XXIII | 2022 State NJ 6-4 205 Pope John XXII High School
Just by watching a couple seconds of his film, its very clear that the Boston College commit can make dynamic plays while on the run and still have good accuracy He is athletic when carrying the football and can extend plays with his legs while evading defenders with ease. He has a quick release which you can see he is comfortable throwing the ball from different shoulder angles.
Devion Sheppard Devion Sheppard 6'3" | QB West Side | 2022 State NJ 6-3 205 West Side High School
He has an absolute ROCKET of an arm, watching the ability to launch the ball downfield with great accuracy and velocity he places on throws is a sight to watch.He demonstrates to ability to be comfortable in the pocket and not rush his mechanics while a rush is on him, he picks apart defenses to make huge plays.
Kai Colon 6-3 210 Paramus Catholic High School
This quarterback finds a way to make a BIG play, the awareness and having the accuracy to place the ball in tight coverage while not rushing his delivery. He is comfortable on rolling out into open space and shows the body control to make key throws while on the run from oncoming defenders rushing him.
