Another week of spring football is in the books and its been another week of dominant passing performances.
Some quarterbacks lit it up this week in big games.
Earlier, I highlighted the <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2021/03/southern-california-top-rushing-performances-week-3/">top rushing performances</a> from week three.
Here are six of the top passing performances from week three.
<strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/2020/07/top-5-san-diego-section-quarterbacks/">Trevor Appelman</a>, Mater Dei Catholic, 2021</strong>
Mater Dei Catholic (Chula Vista) has one of the most prolific offenses in the San Diego area and it’s largely due to quarterback Trevor Appelman. He threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to [player_tooltip player_id="25091" first="Darren" last="Barkins"] to give the Crusaders a 14-0 lead over Montgomery last week and Appelman led the Crusaders to 39 points in the win. He is 6-foot-6, stands tall in the pocket and has a good feel for any receiver who steps on the field with him. He is signed with New Mexico State and is one of the best quarterbacks in the San Diego region.

<strong>Kyle Crum, Norco, 2022</strong>
Crum has played against two struggling opponents in Santiago and Corona, but he has played well and that is what good quarterbacks do: dominate the teams you’re supposed to. He completed 9 of 10 passes for 213 yards with four touchdowns in the 65-6 rout. He completed passes to five different receivers and threw touchdowns to three different players. He has been invited to Elite 11 camps and showcases and is an intriguing prospect.

<strong>Gunnar Hensley, Mission Hills, 2022</strong>
Hensley has taken advantage of the short spring season by showcasing how accurate he can be. His biggest strength is throwing into tight windows and he also has the arm strength to fit the ball into those windows. He is north of 6-foot-3 with a GPA over 4.0 and should garner some offers this offseason. He has no offers yet but has gone to Team Makasi showcases in San Diego and has led Mission Hills to nice wins over Oceanside and Temecula Valley.

<strong>Bo Kelly, Dana Hills, 2022</strong>
Dana Hills moved down in league quality to the Pacific Coast Conference which is objectively worse than the Sea View League where they used to play. No player has taken advantage of that transition more than Bo Kelly. Kelly was a good quarterback in the Sea View League and is an elite quarterback now. Part of that is because of the level of competition but a large part of it is due to Kelly’s hard work. He had accuracy last season but his arm strength has improved and he makes difficult throws look easy. He is a real athlete who is also a great pitcher on the baseball team. He doesn’t rely on his athleticism like some quarterbacks do and he is a real student of the game who it’s apparent is the leader of the offense.

<strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/2020/07/top-5-san-diego-section-quarterbacks/">Justus McComb</a>, Granite Hills, 2021</strong>
McComb is one of the top senior quarterbacks in San Diego and has led Granite Hills to a very good start to the spring season. He only completed nine passes against Grossmont, but threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns. That is nearly a 24 yards per completion average. He also ran for 84 yards on 14 attempts and has eight touchdowns compared to just one interception on the young season. McComb is making the most of his final high school games and is committed to Southwest Minnesota State University.

<strong>David Rasor, Corona del Mar, 2023</strong>
Rasor worked his tail off this offseason to beat out four others in a quarterback competition at Corona del Mar, where they had a 16-game winning streak and were led by a Pac 12 quarterback. That’s a lot of pressure for a sophomore and Rasor has handled it very well. The Sea Kings suffered their first loss in two years to Los Alamitos in week two but Rasor and the team bounced back in a rout of previously unbeaten Huntington Beach. He completed 60 percent of his passes for 297 yards and five touchdowns, all of which are career-highs. He isn’t a top prospect yet but he will garner some attention due to being the starting quarterback at such a high-profile school.
