Continue ReadingThe player performance camps have started up full force this offseason and it is terrific to see it after a year where Covid-19 shutdown everything. Plenty of Arkansas high school football players are performing well in the camps across the southern United States this weekend. We are going to take a look at a few more players that are making the most of the opportunities at the camps this weekend.
Mario Benjamin Mario Benjamin 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Dollarway | 2022 State AR -Defensive Line-Pine Bluff Dollarway-2022
Benjamin is a player that is incredibly versatile on the defensive side of the ball. Benjamin has the talent to play on the defensive line, but he can also line up at the linebacker position. In 2020, Benjamin racked up 53 tackles, one sack, and four hurries. He has the perfect size for either position at 6-4 and 230 pounds. Benjamin had impressive camp at the National Team Selection Combine in Frisco, Texas this weekend. Benjamin is a player that scouts will need to keep an eye on this season because of his versatility and just how disruptive he is in the offensive backfield.
Jackie Washington Jackie Washington 5'9" | 180 lbs | WR El Dorado | 2022 State AR -Wide Receiver-El Dorado-2022
One wide receiver in the class of 2022 that seems to always know where he is on the field is El Dorado receiver Jackie Washington Jackie Washington 5'9" | 180 lbs | WR El Dorado | 2022 State AR . El Dorado coaches do an excellent job of using Washington all over the field. Last season, Washington racked up 471 yards and three receiving touchdowns. On the camp circuit, Washington is lighting opposing defenses up with his tough receptions and dangerous speed. Washington uses his speed to create separation and El Dorado receiving corps looks as if it is going to be forced to be reckoned with in 2021.
Mark Welch Mark Welch 6'3" | 290 lbs | OL Camden Fairview | 2022 State AR -Offensive Line-Camden Fairview-2022
The offensive line talent in Arkansas is deep for the class of 2022. Welch and his teammate Timothy Dawn give the Camden Fairview Cardinals the makings of a terrific offensive line going into the 2021 season. Welch is a powerful offensive lineman that can be a dominating presence when it comes to his run blocking. He plays with a mean streak and that is something opposing defensive linemen have a difficult time playing against. At 6-3- and 295-pounds Welch is a force when it comes to pass blocking as well. It should come as no surprise that Welch impressed many at the National Team Selection Combine in Frisco over the weekend.
Vincent Winters-Offensive Line-Malvern-2024
Winters is a freshman offensive lineman that has already earned a scholarship offer from the University of Arkansas. Winters is 6-4 and 285-pounds and he is a powerhouse at the left tackle position for the Malvern Leopards. The scary thing about Winters is that he is only going to continue to improve over the next few seasons. Winters impressive pass blocking, and solid run blocking is what is drawing the attention of power-five schools. Winters is going to be a player that scouts are going to want to keep tabs on over the next few years. Winters was impressive at the National Team Selection Combine and his potential is high. He is going to be a great player to watch over the next few years.
Stan Smith-Quarterback-Monticello-2022
Smith is an extremely accurate quarterback that can fit the ball into some tight windows. The Monticello quarterback continues to perform well in the camp circuit. We have already seen that Smith has the arm strength but now we are seeing in camps that he has the accuracy as well. The part of the game I find the most impressive is how he uses his legs to extend plays and make the throw down the field to an open wide receiver. Monticello is going to be an interesting team to watch this season and I look forward to seeing what else Smith can accomplish as the 2021 season draws near.
