You won’t see many athletes that can battle with the raw numbers or the variety of numbers that Zach has put up over his career. His junior year was one to remember for the NDSU commit. Zach is the tone setter for the team on top of being that type of statistical producer. It all comes together in a ton of wins over the past few years for Boyceville. The Bison got better with this commit.

One thing about small schools is that it is going to give you some versatile athletes that play multiple positions. One such athlete is Boyceville’s

. The 6’4″ 245 lbs junior plays DL, FB, and TE and at this point has an argument for all those positions at the next level. On defense Zach dominates with his powerful burst off the snap, active hand use, and range once he powers into the backfield. Zach uses multiple pass rush moves and also shows the power to hold the line of scrimmage. On offense, Hellendrung dominates as a lead blocker, clearing huge holes for his RB. It is impressive watching him go from that to a smooth athlete out of the backfield as a receiving option. Zach is a very versatile talent that needs more eyes on him going forward.

Zach is an intriguing prospect because he is has the potential to play a few different positions. On defense, Zach was a menace on the interior where he was able to power his way to penetration and disruption in the backfield. Zach shows quickness out of his stance, active hands, and a strong array of moves to disengage. On offense, Zach’s power is a big bonus when he gets out in front to lead block. Same as when he is carrying the ball north-south with a head of steam. Within that size and strength is also the athleticism needed to impact the game, whether he is making a play with the ball in the open field or showing off range on defense after getting off the block. Hellendrung is one of the top juniors still alive in the playoffs. Keep an eye on him.

I have crossed paths with Zach at three camps this spring/summer and I was in attendance for his final game of 2023. I’m not complaining about it. Zach is a dominant athlete who has delivered every time I watch him in person. Zach first grabbed my attention in Madison with how quick his feet were through bag drills with the DL coach. Plus his balance and burst stood out during those drills. The standout DL is around 6’2″ 225 lbs with room to add onto that frame. It will be interesting to see how his frame and length develop. The physical tools are there and building up.

A favorite for me in the Class of 2026 is the versatile, athletic DL, FB, TE coming out of Boyceville, WI. Zach’s superior strength and athleticism allows him to shine wherever he plays on the field at the HS level, but DL looks like his future home at the next level. The incoming junior tipped the scales at 6’3″ 236 lbs. A big jump in weight from where he was at the end of the season. As it seems all talented DL/OL do, Zach posted an impressive pro agility time of 4.82 seconds and a 8’5″ broad jump. On the field Zach seems to play even more explosive, powerful, and agile than those solid numbers would suggest. He can get off the line with a great first step and either get hands on, lock out and make a pass rush move, or he can simply make a lateral cut in his pass rush path to leave the OL blocking air as he slips past free. Zach is developing ways to win with quickness and with power. Look for him to continue to dominate camps over the coming years, and give HS OL nightmares leading into Friday nights.

The sophomore out of Boyceville stood out from the crowd as soon as he took the field. The nearly 6’3″ 227 lbs DL has that big, muscular frame that has so much potential to add even more size over the years. Even better than looking the part of a high level recruit is playing like one. That is what Zach did.
Zach has an exciting blend of power, quickness, and technique that is going to have college coaches very intrigued. The first step explosion he displayed was an unfair mismatch for the OL. His long stride ate up the cushion and then flashed the quick and powerful hands to swipe away the hands of the OL. Zach is also blessed with body control and agility. He could change pad level, move laterally while on in his rush, or redirect and make a counter move off his initial rush. The sophomore did a great job using his hands and length to create separation and once there was any space he would capitalize on it. The 2026 is an athlete that college coaches need to have on their radars now. Big things are ahead of the Boyceville standout.

Zach was one of my favorite new finds from last season. The 2026 has been blessed with and developed a great frame at 6’4″ 225 lbs. He helped a Boyceville team make it to Level 3 of the playoffs last fall with his play at DL and TE/FB. On tape Zach is a powerful athlete who is able to break tackles, collapse the pocket, and open up running lanes. I’m excited to see how well he tests plus see what position he plays at on Sunday. He is a versatile athlete that can do a lot. I think he is an underclassmen that can turn heads often on Sunday.

Zach was one of my favorite midseason finds from 2023. He was a key contributor on a team that mad hit to Level 3 of the playoffs. The 6’3″ 225 lbs athlete stands out as a FB/TE and DL. On defense, Zach shows consistently effective hand usage. He places them perfectly on the chest of his man, creates separation, and then uses an array of rips or swims to get past the block. The big man play with nimble feet that give him the ability to slide laterally while attacking upfield. You see his wrestling background shine through too as he works to gain the leverage advantage.
On offense Zach’s physicality sets the tone. He is a massive load to bring down with his low center of gravity and powerful stiff arm. He easily rips through tackle attempts and has enough speed to break loose for a big play. The sophomore is a viable receiving option too with soft hands and a size/speed combo that LBs have a hard time matching. Zach is also a road clearing lead blocker. He runs over LBs and looks for more once he finishes one block. Don’t sleep on this northern WI standout.
