DORCHESTER | The list of rising seniors who performed well at the Carolinas Coaches Combine Woodland site went well beyond the event’s award winners.
In fact, we had our eyes peeled throughout Saturday morning and saw a whole bunch of guys who not only showed up, but showed out.
From receivers who made circus catches to quarterbacks who were dropping dimes to linemen who who showed up even bigger than we previously understood them to be, those who attended gave us plenty to talk about.
Here are 10 of those players who did their thing and gave us good reason to bump them up or even into our rankings come our ensuing updates in the coming months.
Cameron Austin Cameron Austin 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Barnwell | 2025 State SC QB, Barnwell (pictured)
Currently: No. 91 overall, No. 13 position
Measurables: 5-foot-11.25, 173.4 pounds
What we liked: Austin’s 2023 season was pretty good, as he threw for 1,765 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for another 911 yards and 21 more scores. On Saturday, he then ran a 4.54 40, put up a pretty respectable 14 reps on the 185-pound bench and then was arguably the most consistent passer with the throws the quarterbacks were asked to make.
Kevin Boone Kevin Boone 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Berkeley | 2025 State SC WR, Berkeley
Currently: No. 173 overall, No. 18 position
Measurables: 5-foot-11, 170 pounds
What we liked: Not only has Boone put on about 10 pounds since he initially entered our rankings, he made some acrobatic in-air receptions during the competition phase Saturday that had people oohing and ahhing. We didn’t keep a tracker on him throughout, but we saw him haul in at least four touchdown receptions, including one where he smoked a defensive back and walked into the end zone.
Isaiah Evans Isaiah Evans 6'7" | 320 lbs | OL Whale Branch | 2025 State SC OL, Whale Branch
Currently: Unranked
Measurables: 6-foot-6.5, 322 pounds
What we liked: Size doesn’t lie, and Evans’ was telling a whole bunch of truth. We’re not going to make any excuses for why he isn’t ranked yet except for that he’s somewhat hidden (as much as someone of his size can be) because he played center last season for the Warriors. His 85-inch wing span gives him yet another leverage advantage in close quarters.
Tony Cherry OL, Barnwell
Currently: Unranked
Measurables: 6-foot-4.25, 290.4 pounds
What we liked: While more than two inches shorter than Evans, Cherry’s wingspan was identical and he stood out to multiple coaches on site as the most active offensive lineman (although that honor ultimately went to Jerius Williams Jerius Williams 6'0" | 275 lbs | OL Sumter | 2025 State SC from Sumter). On top of that, Cherry was top 10 for the position Saturday in both the 40 and pro shuttle and got 18 reps up on the bench despite his arm length.
Yasir Smith DL, Summerville
Currently: Unranked
Measurables: 6-foot-3.75, 263.6 pounds
What we liked: A converted tight end, Smith popped off several of the event categories, most notably his 5.06-second 50 time. He showed some big-time explosiveness during positional chase drills and more than held his own during the one-on-ones. Smith didn’t get a ton of playing time last year, but we expect that to change in 2024.
Jaden Cummings Jaden Cummings 5'11" | 195 lbs | QB Summerville | 2025 State SC QB, Summerville
Currently: No. 24 overall, No. 5 position
Measurables: 5-foot-10.5, 192.8 pounds
What we liked: Yes, we’re talking about stock risers, here, but with Cummings, we not talking about his already lofty ranking. No, we think Cummings used Saturday to improve his chances of getting into the Shrine Bowl conversation. It’s going to be a tough road, but his arm strength can’t be ignored and we think that staff is going to have some difficult conversations when it comes to what Cummings can provide.
Troy Timko Troy Timko 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Hilton Head | 2025 State SC RB, Hilton Head
Currently: No. 135 overall, No. 24 position
Measurables: 5-foot-9.25, 194 pounds
What we liked: Timko is inching himself closer to that 200-pound mark and yet still showing he’s faster than he was last year. He ran a 4.71 40 and clocked a 4.53 in the pro shuttle and we don’t think he’s done decreasing either total. He’s a 1,200-yard tailback who is going to get at least 200 carries next year and has even more under the hood to work with than he did a season ago.
Hank Aeppli Hank Aeppli 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Lucy Beckham | 2025 State SC LB, Lucy Beckham
Currently: No. 140 overall, No. 16 position
Measurables: 5-foot-11, 182.6 pounds
What we liked: There’s no other way to say this than Aeppli absolutely got after it on Saturday. He ran a 4.7 40 and a 4.62 in the pro shuttle. His broad jump chimed in at 105 inches. His vertical was 27.6 inches. He did 19 reps on the bench. And then he did pretty well covering tailbacks during a one-on-one portion where the offensive players were simulating catching the ball out of the backfield in the flat. Aeppli clearly wasn’t going through the motions.
JJ Fludd JJ Fludd 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Porter-Gaud | 2025 State SC RB, Porter Gaud
Currently: No. 70 overall, No. 12 position
Measurables: 5-foot-10.5, 175.4 pounds
What we liked: Fludd is part of a jam-packed class of tailbacks, and even though he ran for 2,000-plus yards last fall, where he’s doing it and who it coming against keeps him slightly lower than some of his peers. However, what we noticed Saturday was Fludd challenging himself. While he’s played some defensive back previously, he wanted to test himself with that position group. If we swap him to athlete, he likely rises up the board.
Daniel Dounian Daniel Dounian 6'0" | 230 lbs | OL West Ashley | 2025 State SC OL, West Ashley
Currently: Unranked
Measurables: 5-foot-11.75, 235.6 pounds
What we liked: Dounian was by all accounts one of the smallest offensive linemen in the entire session. It didn’t stop him from putting up some solid numbers across the board. The most noticeable was his 25 reps on the bench (a top-10 finish) despite giving up some significant weight to many of those who beat him.
