Expert Analysis
Paul Gregorian | Prep Redzone Scout
Banuelos checks into our updated rankings as a top ten linebacker in the class and is a very good overall athlete with plenty of next level potential and plus athleticism for the position. He runs well sideline to sideline, is a efficient tackler that brings a big thump at the POA, can change direction quickly inside the tackles and quickly knifes into the backfield while able to rush the passer as well. Look for him to be atop the tackle ranks through the 2026 season and should have a strong last season for Emmett and gather plenty of D3 offers.

Banuelos is one of the top ’27 outside linebackers across Idaho, and is coming off a tremendous second season campaign for Emmett. He has the frame at 6’2″ to continue packing on weight over the next two seasons and is stout against the run while also showing some man cover abilities as well in the flats. He shows he can rush off the edge, is a natural bender and wins with speed and quick use of hands against bigger tackles and collapses the pocket quickly when pass rushing. He also shows good pursuit backside and a good initial strike when coming up and setting the edge while having a strong understanding of run fits/game flow and is seemingly always around the ball.

Banuelos is finally at the helm for Emmett after sitting behind some really talented seniors. He is a plus athlete that can really hurt you in the running game that has made Emmett so dangerous. He is a quick trigger quarterback that has a compact release that allows the football to get to his playmakers. He is going to be one to watch for a program that keep having winning season after winning season.

Banuelos is one of the top athletes in the class of 2027, where he played really important snaps for Emmett. A rare blend of size and speed for a player who is only going to be a sophomore. He has the ability to really run and shows really good vision for someone who plays quarterback where he reads holes like a runningback. Stands tall in the pocket with good timing but as he progresses as a high school quarterback he will be one to watch. Timing and balance is going to be his most important skill to improve but is such a good athlete he should be one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2027.
