There are numerous running backs and quarterbacks that had great seasons. So many that I have decided to break the following reports down by school classification and limited it to players who rushed for at least 1,000 yards.
I am sure I will miss some as not all teams make their stats public and players who fell short of the 1,000-yard mark I will try to feature later down the road.
This is the second report on the top rushers in Kansas. This group played in Class 5A programs and reached the century mark in yards gained on the ground.
Lucas Dickman Lucas Dickman 5'8" | 160 lbs | ATH Eisenhower | 2024 State KS , RB, 5’8”, 160, Eisenhower (Goddard), ‘24
Dickman rushed for 1,847 yards in 12 games played and scored 16 touchdowns on the ground. He caught three balls for touchdowns for the Tigers. The Tiger senior has nice running form and keeps his legs moving which makes him difficult to ankle tackle. He is a patient runner who lets his lineman open holes for him.
Colton McKanna Colton McKanna 5'8" | 175 lbs | RB Spring Hill | 2024 State KS , RB, 5’9”, 190, Spring Hill, ‘24
McKanna finished with a solid season for the Broncos. In nine games played, he rushed for 1,845 and 29 touchdowns. He has found the end zone on the ground a total of 63 times in his last two seasons. McKanna is another guy who is hard to bring down. He has breakaway speed and takes care of the ball.
Tristan Baker Tristan Baker 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Mill Valley | 2024 State KS , RB, 5’9”, 170, Mill Valley, ‘24
Baker put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons to complete his high school career. He rushed for 1,648 yards in 12 games played during his senior campaign. He rushed for 1,437 yards in 11 games as a junior. The Mill Valley senior scored 25 touchdowns on the ground and caught two touchdown passes.
Elijah Wilson Elijah Wilson 5'8" | 170 lbs | RB Salina Central | 2024 State KS , RB, 5’8”, 170, Salina Central, ‘24
The Mustang back rushed for over 1,400 yards in eight games played during his senior season. He rushed for 17 touchdowns for Salina Central. Wilson has speed that plays at the next level with a recorded 4.5-second Forty and a 4.22 shuttle.
Daimont Mucker Daimont Mucker 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Valley Center | 2024 State KS , RB, 5’10”, 185, Valley Center, ‘24
Mucker rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the second straight season, but he did see a dip in production. In nine games played, he rushed for 1,127 yards, 700 yards less than his junior season total. His total number of carries and touchdowns scored also decreased. He is a threat to catch balls out of the backfield and can return kicks on special teams.
Micah Johnson Micah Johnson 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Goddard | 2024 State KS , RB, 5’11”, 170, Goddard, ‘24
Both of the schools in Goddard featured top-tier running backs. Johnson rushed for 1,119 yards in nine games played for the Lions. She scored 11 touchdowns on the ground. Johnson has committed to play for Kansas University after graduation.
Allen Baughman Allen Baughman 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB Shawnee Heights | 2024 KS , RB, 5’8”, 180, Shawnee Heights, ‘24
Baughman battled a lower-body injury this season but still reached the 1,000-yard threshold in 10 games played. He also scored 16 touchdowns on the ground for the Thunderbirds. During his junior season, Baughman rushed for 1,496 yards and 20 touchdowns. He is a tough-minded between-the-tackles runner and the fact that he returned to the Shawnee Heights lineup as quick as he did is a testament to his will to compete.
Jaden Scobee, RB, 6’0”, 191, Mill Valley, ‘24
The Jaguars had two 1,000-yard rushers in their explosive offense. Scobee rushed for 1,009 yards in 11 games played. He only carried the ball 107 times, so he averaged just over nine yards per carry. He scored 11 touchdowns on the ground. Scobee is also a solid blocker.
The following running backs rushed for over 800 yards but fell short of the 1,000-yard threshold. Cody Miller (Great Bend), Daniel Blane (Mill Valley), Wyatt Rink Wyatt Rink 5'7" | 165 lbs | ATH Pittsburg | 2024 State KS (Pittsburg), Tyson Wallace (Goddard), Tyrone Butler (Lansing) and KC-Washington’s Savion Stone.
