SARGENT COUNTY, ND-- We roll out another one of our Uncommited Reports on deserving Dakotas seniors, that are still waiting for their first offer at the next-level with Thursday's report taking a look at one of SE North Dakota's most under the radar linemen in Sargent County 2024 OG/DT [player_tooltip player_id='503417' first='Grady' last='Wehlander']. We chatted with Grady about himself, his football skillsets and development over the years, where he is at on his recruiting trail for next-year, and much more!

Q: Introduce yourself, let us know what position/positions you play, what are some things college coaches should know about you football-wise and as a person as well as what you bring to the table at your position?

Grady: My name is [player_tooltip player_id='503417' first='Grady' last='Wehlander']. I am a 6'1 265lbs offensive guard and defensive tackle for the Sargent County Bulldogs where I have been a captain for now my second year. Football wise I got a lot of love for the game. I am passionate about the accomplishments I have made and the goals I have reached for myself. I am always putting in the extra work to make myself better not only as a better football player but a better person.

Q: What are your biggest strengths on the field at your position?

Grady: I have been playing both sides of the line since my 8th grade year, and I have loved every second of it. Nothing is more fun in football than making a big block or sacking the quarterback.

Q: Do you plan on playing college football and do you have any schools that are recruiting you currently?

Grady: I do plan on playing college football. I have been in contact with a couple Division II schools as well as Division III and NAIA through the Dakotas and Minnesota, where I've gotten game day invites and such.

Q: What's your “recruiting pitch” to college coaches about what you could bring to their program on and off the field?

Grady: Off the field I bring character and leadership and am willing to do anything for any coach or teammate of mine . On the field I bring toughness, strength, and athleticism for my size.

Q: What is something in your past seasons that your coaches told you to develop this season, and how much work this season have you put into improving on those skillsets?

Grady: Working my way up to the second level. Being a freshmen starter, that is something I struggled with early. Our coaches have emphasized for me to work on that offensively. Defensively, it has been getting off and reading blocks. I have worked on all of these over the offseason, and have improved in those categories tremendously.

Q: Who is your football mentor? Can be any coach, alumni, family member, etc. anyone that's had an impact on your football career.

Grady: My dad has always been my football mentor. He has pushed me ever since I was a little kid to become a better football player, and was always willing to take me anywhere for camps to help improve my skillsets.

Q: What are some things you learned about yourself as a player this season? What are your goals for next season at the next level?

Grady: I become a better football player each week this season. If it is in practice, or a a game, I learned something new to constantly improve on. I am still waiting to receive my first offer, which is still my number one goal right now, and then I can build from there when it comes to the next-level.

[player_tooltip player_id='503417' first='Grady' last='Wehlander']

Position: OG, DT

Height, Weight: 6'1 265 pounds

Twitter:@grady_wehlander

Evaluation: Grady is a two-way prospect in the trenches with dominant hands consistently at the point of attack on his senior tape. A significant skillset I like on tape on Grady, is how opportunistic of a run blocker he is, as he can get to the second level and can multi-engage with the same level of physicality on the next defender as the last one. He shows off some fluid footwork that shows off agile feet as a pulling guard and maintains a great pad-level when getting downhill. He gets outstanding leverage with his barreling strength and can drive his blocker into the next area code with his developing technique. I also like his awareness downfield, as he is constantly looking for his next victim. Defensively, Grady is quick off his sheds and in my eyes plays with a ton of range for his 6'1 265 pound size as those mobile feet standout on the defensive side of the ball as well. He shows off some long strides with his athleticism, and he is not afraid to use his vision to quickly recreate a smoother angle to the ball carrier. Grady is certainly a prospect that should get some offers this winter or before, as I think he's one of North Dakota's biggest 2024 sleepers in the trenches especially at the 9-man level.
