Pressure early, and pressure often, and if you can pressure with only your defensive line, then that’s a win in itself.
Good defensive line play is always a key priority when constructing a defense, and college teams are always on the lookout for defensive linemen that show the ability to show the strength to control the run game and the athletic ability to move well in space and be pass rush threats.
Here are five 2022 defensive linemen from the state of Wisconsin that you should keep an eye on this upcoming season.
Barrett Nelson 6-7 260 Defensive Tackle Fall River High School
A tall athletic defensive lineman that uses his length to strike and create separation from the offensive lineman and sheds blocks quickly and effectively. He moves well once he clears the line of scrimmage to make key plays in the opposing backfield, shows good body control and can get flat down the line to make the play.
Isaac Hamm Isaac Hamm 6'6" | 270 lbs | LB Sun Prairie | 2022 State WI 6-6 270 Defensive End Sun Praire High School
An explosive defensive lineman that has the ability to be a force off the edge, he demonstrates the ability to bend and show quick movement out of his stance and tracks down on the ball carrier. His pass rush tecniquie is quick and precise with nose wasted movement, he uses speed to power to get the offensive tackle off balance and sheds his block to get to the quarterback.
Nate Genzel Nate Genzel 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Kettle Moraine | 2022 State WI 6-4 245 Defensive End Kettle Moraine High School
An instinctive and active defensive lineman that reads and diagnoses his block in front of him and shows the ability to control and shed offensive lineman and make key plays in the run game. He is an active pass rusher that has active hands and chops, dips and rips through into the opposing offensive backfield.
Came Done 6-5 285 Defensive Tackle Rufus King High School
A strong athletic defensive lineman that shows the ability to stack and shed blocks and demonstrate good hand placement to disenage and find the ball carrier for a tackle for loss. He displays the ability to have good leverage and accelerates off the block and stays tight in his pass rush lane to take down the quarterback.
Gabe Alyousef Gabe Alyousef 6'2" | 275 lbs | DL Oak Creek | 2022 State WI 6-3 245 Defensive End Oak Creek High School
A strong versatile defensive lineman that can line up in different techniques along the defensive line to be a consistent play maker against the opposing offenses run game. He demonstrates good flexibility to be able to change directions and body control to adjust his path to the quarterback on a consistent basis.
