2022 Rankings: Breaking Down The Midlands (Part 1)

More than 30 players from our Class of 2022 state rankings come from the Midlands. From Sumter to the west side of Lexington County, the central pocket of the state produces battle-tested players who are cutting their teeth just about every game. In six parts, we broke down all of them and what we loved about their games. This is a list you don’t want to miss. [player_tooltip player_id="91222" first="Jacob" last="Osmanski"] School: Pelion Position: Wide receiver Analysis: In the year 2023, some small college is going to line up its H-back in a wildcat formation, confuse the heck out of a defense and end up with a short-yardage TD pass. [player_tooltip player_id="91229" first="Sterling" last="Goodwin"] School: Ridge View Position: Linebacker Analysis: Goodwin is definitely a collegiate defensive end in the making. He’s already 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, and he’s got no problem busting up opposing offensive tackles. [player_tooltip player_id="91233" first="Jonathan" last="Chavis"] School: Camden Position: Defensive line Analysis: At 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds, Chavis is already highly productive for the Bulldogs. And after another offseason of the high-school weight program, his numbers will wow even more. [player_tooltip player_id="61078" first="Tevin" last="Eley"] School: Camden Position: Linebacker Analysis: Eley’s numbers are going to jump through the roof next season, when a full slate of games and two older players at the position have moved on to the college ranks. [player_tooltip player_id="91235" first="CJ" last="Wicker"] School: Dutch Fork Position: Linebacker Analysis: Put two or three inches on Wicker’s 5-foot-11, 205-pound frame and he’s likely one of the more recruited linebackers in the entire state. His tackle numbers don’t lie. [player_tooltip player_id="91245" first="Isom" last="Harris"] School: C.A. Johnson Position: Quarterback Analysis: Harris doesn’t look like a prototypical college quarterback (5-foot-10, 215 pounds). Just so happens he’s also the Hornets’ top linebacker. Somebody will find a spot for him.
