Film Analysis: Class of 2022

One of my favorite parts of this job is having kids reaching out and asking for my opinion on their film. Over the past couple of weeks I have gathered enough film from the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 class to begin putting out articles where I go through these players’ film and provide a quick scouting report of what I believe they have to offer collegiate programs. Since we are past National Signing Day and the focus has switched more towards the 2022 Class I want to start with them. Below, you will find 10 of the athletes from the Class of 2022 that have reached out asking for my opinion on their film. This won’t be the last time I do this for any of these classes. Jacob Nesterick, LB- Stanley- Boyd Jacob finished his junior season as the second leading sack artist in the state of Wisconsin with 12 sacks in 9 games. He currently checks in at roughly 5'10" 190 lbs. The tape shows a quick, twitchy, stand up edge defender. His initial burst paired with quick and strong hands allows him to quickly get offensive linemen's hands down and his flexibility around the edge makes him hard to even lay a hand on him. That is the makings for an impressive pass rush repertoire. He can beat you with his hand fighting or his speed/bend and by the time opposing linemen figure out which he is going to use Jacob is already behind them getting after the QB. Nesterick can be more than a pass rusher too. Against the run, Jacob does a great job of working through the trash on the edge to make plays in the backfield on plays coming at him or away from him. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11324400/601a1d4eff01d709fc051154">Give this kid a look!</a> Colton Geurink, RB/LB- Wausau West Colton is a full grown man at the RB position. He checks in at 6' 220 lbs and plays like it. You don't have to watch long into his junior film to realize that his contact balance is college ready. He bounces off tackle attempts from single defenders and runs through arm tackles with ease. You better bring the whole squad when you try to bring this dude down. Colton is at his best as a north-south runner. He doesn't waste time dancing or juking in the backfield or downfield. Instead he attacks downhill and dares defenders to step up and bring him down. Geurink is a tone setter in the backfield. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8888791/5f982c57578f0a085884afb3">Check him out here!</a> Maddux Allen, QB- Cumberland This kid drops DIMES on the football field! He finished his 9 game, junior season with an 80% completion percentage, nearly 2,000 yards, and a 25:1 TD:INT ratio. Those are video game numbers and the film matches the stat line. Maddux checks in at 5'11" 175 lbs, but don't let that worry you. It has clearly not effected his game. I am a big fan of the film. He can carve up all three levels of the defense with accuracy and plenty of velocity on the ball. When the play breaks down, Maddux doesn't panic. He maneuvers in the pocket with ease and when he has to he can escape the pocket and throw darts while on the run. You can feel the confidence he plays with through the film and I really like how decisive he is in his decision making. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13059478/5fc01c34f31c53105cc8d632">Check out the film here!</a> Sam Heicher, DB- Lake Country Lutheran This is my first exposure to Sam and I really like what I see. The 5'10" 175 lbs safety shows a well rounded game in his film. He is effective in every facet of the position. He has the range to cover a deep half of the field and can fly downhill to fill against the run from his deep safety spot. In coverage, Sam's reactive athleticism and ability to read the QB allows him to make plays all over the secondary. Sam also has the loose hips to be able to come down to the line of scrimmage and cover the slot man to man. One of my favorite aspects of his game is how versatile he is. He has the coverage traits listed above and he doesn't panic when the ball is in the air. He actually has good ball skills and can create turnovers. Then he can turn into almost an extra linebacker in run support. Sam flies through gaps and picks through the trash at the line of scrimmage to make perfect wrap up tackles. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11490481/5fb94a82041ef309e82f9b8f">Take a look for yourself here!</a> Colby Horn, DL- Sussex Hamilton Colby is the prototypical defensive end prospect. He checks in at 6'5" 227 lbs and has all the length you would expect at that size. College programs have to be very intrigued with the potential that Horn has. Colby has surprising quickness out of his stance. He has shown the ability to be able to cross offensive linemen's faces and get through the gap before they can cut him off. His strength allows him the ability to set a strong edge against the run and he uses that strength to create separation from offensive linemen while he pass rushes as well. His immense size allows him to be able to see into the backfield as his disengages with blockers. That ability gives him the upper hand as he can get himself into position earlier than a lot of defensive linemen can. Colby is a nice athlete in space too. His body control allows him to start and stop quickly and pursue ball carriers when they get outside the pocket or tackle box. Colby is going to be a must watch defender in the fall. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11344330/5fbae0b9bd6ac704dc1329ca">You can watch him right here, right now!</a> Keegan Ofstie, LB/ATH- Baldwin- Woodville There is a lot to work with here! Wow, coming in at 6'4" 180 lbs the potential is through the roof with Keegan. As a junior he played LB and RB and I think he could find success at either spot, but because of the size I am looking at him as an LB mostly. There is a lot to like too. Ofstie looks like he is shot out of a cannon when he fills against the run. He flies through his gap and makes play after play in the backfield. That athleticism carries over to the rest of his game as he can easily pursue sideline to sideline and make tackles for little to no gain. His ability to work through the mess of bodies in front of him to make tackles really surprises me. At that size it would seem like he is a bigger target to hit, but he flies through the trash like it doesn't slow him down at all. His ability to read the play and mirror the backs in the backfield is strong too. I'm sure he is going to be a popular prospect going forward. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11303760/5fb15e111761f50a78b99cbe">Check him out!</a> Alec Sullivan, TE- Assumption Alec is a small school prospect that has a chance to make a big name for himself this year. He stands at 6'3" 230 lbs and the athleticism that he has to go with that size caught me off guard at first. He can cover ground with ease and is a big and reliable target for his QB when they used him in the pass game. Where he made his biggest impact this past season was in the run game. It is not an overstatement when I say having him out there was like having an extra offensive lineman on the field. Sullivan is a people mover in the run game. He launches off the line of scrimmage and drives both defensive linemen off the ball and level two players out of running lanes. I would go as far to say that college teams should look at him as both a TE prospect and OL prospect. There is a lot to work with here in Alec Sullivan. He is a tone setter in the trenches. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11225789/5faafaf438638d0d64b81945">Have a look here!</a> Nigel Cheeks, RB- Whitefish Bay This is some fun film to watch! Kid is electric! Nigel checks in at 5'8" 190 lbs. He is built like a cannon ball and plays like he has been shot out of a cannon. It was eye opening. The burst he shows off when he gets the rock in his hands is special. Next level special. The agility he pairs that burst and speed with makes him very hard to corral and bring down in space. He has all the athleticism you could want in an RB prospect at his age and then he adds to it a level of physicality that doesn't look possible from a player of that size, yet it is all over his film. He delivers teeth rattling hits on kickoffs and his low center of gravity and contact balance make it so that if you don't wrap up he isn't going to go down. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13038997/5fcd703d1600950334706dc6">This is must watch film!</a> Matthew Stephany, ATH- Sheboygan Lutheran Matthew is a do it all prospect out of Sheboygan Lutheran. As a junior he made an impact as an RB and an LB and he could play either position at the next level. He currently stands at 6'1" 200 lbs. Based off his film, right now I think he does project best as an LB prospect. He plays fast and downhill when he is filling against the run. His ability to quickly read and react gave him the ability to shoot gaps and make big plays in the backfield over and over on the way to 12 TFLs and 3.5 sacks in 2020. His range from his MLB position really jumps off the film too. He made some of his TFLs near the opposite sideline as he perfectly picked his way through the trash and ran a perfect angle to cut off the ball carrier. This is going to be a kid to watch this fall as he has the potential to fill several roles for a team at the next level. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11291789/60027556b535bd151877d6ea">Give him a look here!</a> [player_tooltip player_id="31248" first="Nick" last="Kent"], RB- Sparta Nick wasn't able to play this fall as Sparta was one of several schools to move to the spring, but his time is about to come. Kent currently checks in at 5'9" 185 lbs. His sophomore film gives me plenty of reason to include him in this article. At the next level, I think Nick has the chance to be a perfect change of pace back. He has some really nice initial burst and explosiveness. His long speed gives him the ability to create big plays when he gets into space too. The vision he demonstrated in his sophomore film gives me high expectations for him this spring. If there is a gap to be found he finds it. Don't let being a change of pace back fool you though. Kent has no problem running the rock between the tackles. He doesn't have to just get out into space to be effective, but it is where he is at his best. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11444965/5e177b7b19b02f08d01d8371">Check out his sophomore film here!
