Handsworth Secondary’s Top Prospects

Today's prospects hail from North Vancouver by way of Handsworth Secondary School. The Royals roster has some interesting talent that could begin to emerge on the recruiting trail. Among them are some senior sleepers and juniors just chopping at the bit to get on college coaches' radars. Their time is coming though, look for them to finish this season strong and take that momentum into the offseason.

RB: [player_tooltip player_id='866803' first='Taigh' last='Oneyar-Povey'] 6'4" 210

The first thing that stands out to me about Taigh is the sheer size. It's hard to find a back with this vertical stature and that has quality lateral agility. This young man is extremely effective as a receiving threat out of the backfield, he's rarely brought down by the first tackle attempt and is a punishing blocker. Don't be shocked if he moves to linebacker at the next level based on his size and physical gifts.

QB: Shane Brinham, 6' 155

A southpaw with good pocket manipulation skills, the ability to extend, and outstanding touch throwing on the move. He shows excellent timing, he can fit the football through tight intermediate windows, and knows when to take a little something off throws. He's slithery against free rushers and uses his eyes to move safeties away from his downfield target.

OL: Shawn Yin, 6'5" 250

Shawn has a good-looking frame and should be able to pack on another forty-fifty pounds at the next level. He moves well for a big man, has natural body control as a second-level blocker, and will latch on once he gets his hands on a defender. Yin has upside, but he's got to show he can be physical at the point of attack and finish blocks. If he does, there's going to be a lot of interest around this young man.

WR: August Portal, 5'11" 160

Portal has no fear of catching in traffic and has the concentration to do it. He uses route tempo to lull defensive backs to sleep, he easily tracks the deep ball over the shoulder and uses a mixture of quickness & well-trained hands to defeat press coverage.

WR: Leonardo Yoshima, 5'10" 160

A technician of a route runner who understands leverage and how to exploit it. This kid knows how to manipulate defenders and can go up and get the 50/50 ball. He's a natural hands-catcher that leans on a defender at the top of his route to separate and has the ability to set up an offense in plus territory as a kick returner.
