Georgia football is loaded with talent. The running back position is a great example, as the class of 2022 includes many running backs with high potential. Since there are so many talented running backs in Georgia some do not garner the attention from colleges that their talent warrants. Check out some of the great running backs from the class of 2022 that warrant more attention.
[player_tooltip player_id="95452" first="Amehre" last="Morrison"], River Ridge Morrison might only be 5’8” but there is so much to like about his game. For one, Morrison has great acceleration and can hit his top speed quickly. Morrison has the ability to make goods cuts and causes defenders to take bad angles. His balance is very impressive and definitely helps him stay on his feet and pick up extra yards. He led the class of 2022 in rushing yards this past season with 1,958, so close to 2,000. He had a very impressive season, averaging 7.4 yards per carry, and finished the year with 29 rushing touchdowns. Morrison was named the CCGC Offensive Backs of the Year. Also, he has good running back instincts and uses his blocks well. His ability to change directions is elite. Morrison caught a handful of passes this year and definitely has the traits to succeed as a pass-catcher out the backfield. He has received offers from Kent State and Presbyterian, and if he continues trending up, I expect more offers to come. Highlights Jordan Moultrie, Hardaway Moultrie is a strong back that is not afraid of contact. He does a good job lowering his shoulder and running through defenders. Moultrie does a good job continuing to drive his feet making it harder for defenders to wrap him up. He is a great pass blocker. Moultrie has great game speed, he separated from defenders all season long. He finished this past season with 1,325 yards on 153 carries and 14 touchdowns. Moultrie has a high football IQ, taking what yards he can get and not always looking for the home run play. Moultrie’s footwork is good and he excels at changing direction. He does a great job making defenders miss. He excels on run plays outside the tackle and on zone runs. Hardaway used him in the slot as well with success. He’s a versatile back that could serve as a legit weapon for college offenses. Moultrie is a player college programs should familiarize themselves with if they haven’t already. Highlights Elijah Stephens, Turner County Another great back from the class of 2022 is Stephens. While he needs to add muscle he has so many other great qualities. Stephens is a patient runner and will wait for the hole to form then hit it with a great burst. He does a good job following his blockers and not making his job any harder on himself. He’s a shifty back with great balance, defenders struggle to get a hold of him and bring him down. Stephens can also make quick cuts that freeze defenders. Stephens has been amazing for Turner County this past season, totaling 1,118 rushing yards, 5.8 yards per carry, and 16 rushing touchdowns. Love how he makes sure to do the little things like carrying the ball with the arm closest to the sideline. As from being a great runner, he’s a good pass catcher. He caught 25 passes for 283 yards and 2 touchdowns. He has the potential to add value to a DII or DI school. Highlights Micah Bell, Ola Bell is a great back that should be getting more attention and looks. Bell is a powerful and tough running back. His physicality makes him a hard tackle as he can run defenders over. He’s a willing pass blocker and can engage defenders. His explosiveness is impressive, he gets off the line very quickly. He hits holes with an explosive burst that allows him to quickly get to the second level defenders and pick up a good amount of yards. In 11 games last season, he rushed for 1,208 yards on 117 carries and 14 touchdowns. He’s a very productive back rushing for over 100 yards in 7 games. This should not be too surprising because he has good straight-line speed and does not struggle to pull away from defenders. Bell’s cuts are solid and do a good job causing defenders to stumble. Bell excels running in between the tackles, he does not struggle to get through holes. Bell will be a diamond in the rough for the college program he ends up at. Highlights [player_tooltip player_id="33992" first="Jayquan" last="Smith"], Cherokee Bluff Smith is another great back from the class of 2022. The first thing that jumps out is his speed. Smith's acceleration is fantastic and has the speed to pull away from defenders. Also, he runs downhill quickly and does not waste much time going east to west. Seeing how quickly he gets downhill, it is no surprise that he averaged 7.2 yards per carry last season. He was a force of nature for Cherokee Bluff this past season, he rushed for 1,079 yards and 15 touchdowns. He had a dominant performance against Dawson County, rushing for 316 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 28-27 victory. He’s a playmaker and can break off a long run at any time. Aside from his speed, you have to love his strength. He carried defenders all season long for extra yards, driving his feet through contact. He is comfortable running in between the tackles and outside the tackles. Smith has a high football IQ, he covers up the ball when swarmed by defenders. There is so much to like about Smith’s game. Deservingly so, Smith has received offers from Gardner-Webb and Georgia State. Highlights
