2022 Rankings: Breaking Down The Lowcountry (Part 1)

The Lowcountry zone of South Carolina offered up 12 top-100 players in the Class of 2022 rankings. But that was just the beginning. In total, more than 30 prep standouts from that section of the state dotted our list for the classification. In this six-part series, we’re going to break down every single one of them. If you’ve got a need, we’re here to tell you how to fill it. Every position is represented, often two or three times over (if not more). This is your recruiting road map to the Lowcountry for the Class of 2022. [player_tooltip player_id="91230" first="Xavier" last="Mitchell-Brown"] SCHOOL: Summerville POSITION: Defensive back ANALYSIS: After transferring from nearby Cane Bay, Mitchell-Brown took on the look of a future college safety, one who can defend the pass and make tackles with ease. [player_tooltip player_id="91236" first="Ja’Quan" last="Wallace"] SCHOOL: James Island Charter POSITION: Defensive back ANALYSIS: Wallace put up more than 60 stops as a sophomore, so it shouldn’t have been much of a surprise that he became an even more violent tackler this past season. [player_tooltip player_id="61076" first="Brandon" last="Howard"] SCHOOL: Thomas Heyward Academy POSITION: Linebacker ANALYSIS: Howard’s a type of linebacker who can do a lot of everything. He finished 2020 with 76 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, three sacks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. [player_tooltip player_id="61077" first="Will" last="Gause"] SCHOOL: Oceanside Collegiate POSITION: Offensive line ANALYSIS: The 6-foot-1, 255 pounder is excellent at releasing off the line on run schemes, a large reason why many of his pancakes happened five yards downfield. [player_tooltip player_id="61079" first="James" last="Townsend"] SCHOOL: Ridgeland-Hardeeville POSITION: Defensive back/Receiver ANALYSIS: The two-way skill player brings his tremendous speed to both sides of the ball, and after another round of exposure camps, he could move up some small-school boards. [player_tooltip player_id="91251" first="Blake" last="Morros"] SCHOOL: Hanahan POSITION: Punter ANALYSIS: Morros maximizes a limited frame. He averaged better than 41 yards per punt in 2020 and was a great weapon on drives that stalled out around midfield.
