We have reached the end stretch of the 2026 high school football regular season, with 2 more games left for the 1A level to determine the playoff picture this season. The 1A conference remains very much competitive, and it will be a footrace to determine who ends up sneaking their way into the postseason to have a shot to make a run for the 1A state championship. We take a look at the top results and standouts from week 6 of the 2026 high school football season across Class 1A Iowa!

Top Games:

Grundy Center vs. South Hardin: 41-40 (3OT)

One of the most thoroughly exciting games of the 2026 season across all of Iowa, the Spartans and the Tigers dueled it out to the bitter end. Having not won against the Spartans since 2014, South Hardin was determined to take advantage of the momentum following Grundy Center's loss in week 5 to snap their losing streak in this rivalry in front of their home crowd. Both teams stayed neck and neck throughout regulation, resulting in a 21-21 tie through 48 minutes to send the game to OT. Both teams matched the scores in the first two OT periods. The Spartans scored first in the 3rd OT period, pairing an extra point along with their TD to take a 7 point lead. The Tigers scored a TD before gambling for the winning 2PT conversion, and in the end, their final desperation pass off a designed rollout when fruitless through a sea of hands, allowing the Spartans to hold on to the victory and their standing in the 1A conference in a pivotal victory.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='2067026' first='Cooper' last='Keller'] (JR) - Keller delivered with a steady performance all around that helped Grundy Center pull off the road stunner over South Hardin. Keller ran for 75 yards on 15 carries and 2 TDs while adding a 44 yard TD reception. Defensively, he recorded a forced fumble, and on special teams, he went 5/6 on extra points, including the extra point in 3OT that proved to be the difference of the game.

MVAOCOU vs. Hinton: 43-38

Homecoming night for Hinton proved to be a high scoring affair between these two, but despite their inconsistencies this season, the Blackhawks delivered their best offensive performance by far in week 6 against one of the highest scoring offenses in the conference. The Blackhawks were able to produce 457 yards of total offense, including 330 on the ground to go with 5 rushing TDs. Leading 36-26 entering the 4th quarter, Hinton seemed poised to put the game away. The Rams clawed their way back and were able to cut the deficit to 5 with just under 2 minutes remaining. However, their final onside kick attempt was recovered by Hinton, allowing them to run out the clock and secure a huge win to keep their season alive.

Top Performer: Micah Robins (SR) - Robins led the charge for a potent rushing attack on Friday night as they steamrolled the Rams' defense. Robins finished with 206 rushing yards (5.9 YPC) and 2 rushing TDs along with a 2 yard reception. Defensively, he recorded 4 tackles (All solo), and he added 98 kick return yards on special teams.

Lisbon vs. Northeast: 26-21

With one of the hottest offenses in the conference, Northeast seemed poised to hold their undefeated record taking on Lisbon at home. However, the Lions made it a much more competitive game than expected, producing a well-rounded offensive performance, racking up 350 yards of offense as they built a 21-14 lead entering the 4th quarter. However, the Lions had no answer for the Rebels' explosive rushing attack, which compiled 336 yards on the ground (6.9 YPC), which ultimately came through for the Rebels late as they scored 12 unanswered in the 4th quarter. After a critical turnover on downs by the Lions, the Rebels used the rushing attack to move the chains and ultimately run out the clock, maintaining their undefeated record through 6 games.

Top Performer: Aiden Feddersen (JR) - The combination of Feddersen and QB Maxzen Eskildsen has proven to be one of the most dynamic rushing duos in the conference so far this season, and they proved that once again on Friday night. Feddersen ran for 191 yards (7.6 YPC) and 2 rushing TDs while adding 5 tackles (4 solo), 2 TFLs, and 0.5 sacks on defense.

Sumner-Fredericksburg vs. Columbus Catholic: 42-35

After winning their first game of the season, the Cougars had lost their last 4 in a row, and entered week 6 taking on the Sailors, who they have lost to in their previous 5 matchups in a row. However, the Cougars rose to the occasion in a big way. After accumulating just 21 points offensively over the last 4 games, they produced almost double that total on Friday night, thanks in part to a dominant rushing attack which racked up 427 yards on the ground (9.9 YPC) and scored all 6 TDs that night, building a multi-possession lead during the 4th quarter to which the Sailors were ultimately unable to overcome. The win snaps the losing streak against the Sailors over the last few years and moves the Cougars up to 2-4 this season.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='2088181' first='Liam' last='Steege'] (SR) - Steege proved capable of striking fear on the Sailors' defense with his ability to break away at any given moment. Steege ran for 223 yards on just 14 carries (15.9 YPC) and 4 TDs along with a 2PT conversion. He went 1/5 passing for 2 yards while also catching a 3 yard pass. Defensively, he added 6 tackles (All solo), 1 TFL, and 1 INT. He also recorded a combined 145 return yards on kicks and punts.

Emmetsburg vs. Manson-NW Webster: 20-14

A huge matchup for both teams with their seasons on the line, the two battled it out on the trenches with both defenses being able to stifle each other at periods during the game. The E-Hawks were able to control most of the game, limiting the Cougars' production, and entering the 4th quarter with a 14-6 lead. The Cougars tied the game with 7 minutes remaining with a TD and 2PT conversion. The Cougars' defense forced a 3 and out, followed by a short punt which set up the Cougars in good field position with just under 6 minutes remaining. The Cougars proceeded to embark on a long, grueling drive that wore down that defense and the clock, steadily chipping away at the defense before finally punching in the winning TD with 21 seconds remaining. The win moves the Cougars up to 3-3 as they remain alive the postseason hunt.

Top Performer: Coy Moline (SR) - Moline delivered with a fittingly gritty performance against the tough E-Hawks defense on Friday night. Moline ran for 113 yards (6.3 YPC) and 2 rushing TDs along with 4.5 tackles (3 solo) and an INT on defense. He also had 2 punts, averaging 31.5 yards per punt.

Other Notable Results from Week 6:

Panorama vs. West Marshall: 62-0

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont vs. Louisa-Muscatine: 62-0

Camanche vs. MFL MarMac: 59-14

Missouri Valley vs. Underwood: 56-0

Jesup vs. Aplington-Parkersburg: 54-0

Lawton-Bronson vs. Alta-Aurelia: 53-14

Ridge View vs. West Lyon: 48-7

Cascade vs. Beckman Catholic: 46-7

Pocahontas Area vs. South Hamilton: 46-38

Sigourney Keota vs. Regina Catholic: 44-9

Pleasantville vs. Ogden: 42-7

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows vs. Eagle Grove: 40-6

South Central Calhoun vs. East Sac County: 35-12

West Central Valley vs. Interstate 35: 35-14

Garner Hayfield Ventura vs. Central Springs: 29-27

Treynor vs. Tri-Center: 27-12

Hudson vs. Union Community: 23-0

Durant vs. Cardinal: 14-6

Top 10 Standouts from Week 6:

QB Nash Mitchell (SO) - Underwood: 17/20, 261 yards, 4 TDs, 1 carry, 4 rushing yards

QB [player_tooltip player_id='2067535' first='Kratyn' last='Dirks'] (JR) - Treynor: 10/14, 154 yards, 3 TDs, 7 carries, 51 rushing yards (7.3 YPC)

RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1941007' first='Zane' last='Mullenix'] (SR) - Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont: 19 carries, 176 rushing yards (9.4 YPC), 6 rushing TDs, 1 reception, 10 yards, 6 tackles (4 solo), 1.5 TFLs, 1 FF, 5 2PT conversions

RB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='2088181' first='Liam' last='Steege'] (SR) - Sumner-Fredericksburg: 14 carries, 223 rushing yards (15.9 YPC), 4 rushing TDs, 1/5, 2 passing yards, 1 reception, 3 yards, 6 tackles (All solo), 1 TFL, 1 INT, 155 return yards, 1 2PT conversion

RB Lincoln Levan (JR) - Central Springs: 31 carries, 163 rushing yards (5.3 YPC), 4 rushing TDs, 5 receptions, 118 yards (23.6 YPC), 7 tackles (5 solo), 0.5 TFLs, 0.5 sacks, 1 2PT conversion.

WR Riley Lauver (SR) - Treynor: 6 receptions, 134 yards (22.3 YPC), 3 receiving TDs, 3 carries, 13 rushing yards, 4 punts, 39 yards per punt

DL/TE Holden Craft (SR) - Union Community: 4 tackles (All solo), 4 TFLs, 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 4 receptions, 25 yards

DL/LB [player_tooltip player_id='2101648' first='Tatum' last='Baethke'] (JR) - Pleasantville: 5 tackles (3 solo), 3.5 TFLs, 2 sacks

LB Coltin Johnson (JR) - Underwood: 7.5 tackles (5 solo), 4 TFLs, 0.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery

ATH [player_tooltip player_id='2050086' first='Joshua' last='Spindler'] (JR) - South Hardin: 0.5 tackles, 3 INTs, 4 receptions, 61 yards, 1 punt, 36 yards
