Hawks QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2109033' first='Jude' last='Herrera']</strong> threw for 146 yards and rushed for 83 yards and 3 TD, while senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1679989' first='Isaiah' last='McCary']</strong> returned a kickoff 94 yards for a TD and raced 22 yards for another. McCary has blazed the 40 in a laser-time 4.44. Volcano Vista begins District 6A-2 play in Week 4. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Santa Fe</strong> (1-2) blanked turnover-prone Clovis, 35-0, at Ivan Head Stadium as the Demons beat the Wildcats for the first time since 1988. Santa Fe QB <strong>Manuel Pena</strong> passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to boost Santa Fe to a 28-0 halftime lead. Pena, who ran for a second TD in the second half, finished with 149 passing yards. The Demons won for the first time after hard-fought losses to Alamogordo and St. Michael's. &nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Espanola Valley</strong> (2-1) continued their nice start under new head coach Frank Galvan by rallying for a 20-16 road win at Bernalillo, The Sundevils trailed the Spartans, 16-0, after the first quarter but scored 20 unanswered points over the final three quarters to pull out the win. Junior ATH <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1606533' first='Benny' last='Trujillo']</strong> scored 3 TD for the Sundevils. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Moriarty</strong> improved to 3-0 by doing what they do best – run the football - in a 51-20 home victory over 4A Albuquerque Academy. Pintos RB [player_tooltip player_id='1606046' first='Mario' last='Romero'] headlined the ground game by rushing for 179 yards and 3 TD. The Pintos defense overcame 263 passing yards by Chargers QB William Braun by limiting Academy to 67 rushing yards on 21 attempts.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Tularosa</strong> (2-1) are becoming the Kardiac Kids of Class 2A. Since losing to Hot Springs in Week 1, the Wildcats have posted one-point wins over Ruidoso (29-28) and Hatch Valley (8-7). His favorite target, senior WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1605990' first='Darrien' last='Williams']</strong>, had 17 receptions for 212 yards and 3 TD in the rout of Atrisco Heritage.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Best Team Offensive Performance: Moriarty. </strong>The Pintos might have the best rushing attack in the state, regardless of classification. They overpowered a good Albuquerque Academy defense with well over 300 rushing yards. They scored on runs of 60, 42 and 33 yards. Moriarty has established themselves as a top contender for the District 3A-2 crown. Monster game at Silver in Week 4.  <strong> </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Best Team Defensive Performance</strong>: <strong>Loving</strong>. The Falcons held NMMI and its triple option attack to 98 rushing yards on 42 attempts, an average of just 2.3 yards per rush. In addition, NMMI was just 2-of-10 passing. NMMI totaled just 145 yards on 52 snaps. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Best Games: Sandia 42, Eldorado 36 (2OT); Roswell 39, Rio Rancho 35.</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sandia (3-0) outlasted Eldorado in double OT to stay perfect on the young season. In the second OT, Sandia finally secured the win when Eldorado RB [player_tooltip player_id='1613441' first='Matthew' last='Rodriguez'], running up the middle, was stopped inches short of the goal line on fourth down. Moments earlier, Sandia RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613382' first='Gad' last='Harris']</strong> scored on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line to give the Matadors the lead. Sandia forced a second OT when Harris ran 10 yards for a TD and QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1594010' first='Jahleel' last='Lewis']</strong> scored the two-point conversion to knot the game at 36-36. The latest came Friday night at the Wool Bowl when the Coyotes outlasted Rio Rancho, 39-35. Roswell WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2103749' first='Izaic' last='Gonzales']</strong> caught 13 passes for 104 yards and 1 TD. Rio Rancho freshman <strong>Crew Victor</strong> caught 2 TD passes and passed for another. A 6-yard TD pass to Roswell WR <strong>Danny Castro</strong> with about 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter secure the win for the Coyotes in the wild game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Sophomore of the Week: Rosalio Gomez Jr.</strong>,<strong> Gadsden</strong>. Gomez impressively completed 18-of-22 passes for 240 yards and 3 TD to lead the Panthers to a 51-14 home victory over 3A Silver. Gadsden dominated the second half, outscoring Silver, 33-0. Gadsden rushed for 213 yards and 5 TD against the Silver defense. &nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Freshmen of the Week: Nick Miller, Hope Christian.</strong> Watching the 6-foot-3 Miller lead the Hope Christian offense will be worth the price of admission at every Huskies game this season. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Best Rivalry Win</strong>: <strong>St. Michael's</strong>. Few rivalries in northern New Mexico are as fierce as Robertson-St. Michael's. Those two programs have been battling for years for Class 3A supremacy, historically going back-and-forth in terms of who wins. Right now, though, St. Michael's has the upper hand with three straight 3A state championships and a 36-game winning streak. Saturday, the Horsemen dismantled Robertson, 45-0, in Santa Fe. St. Michael's grabbed a 14-0 eight minutes into the game and added another 21 points in the second quarter, including a 17-yard TD pass to [player_tooltip player_id='1826301' first='Victor' last='Corral'] with 2 seconds left before halftime. After dropping the first two games, Goddard traveled to Los Lunas looking for a much-needed win. The Rockets got it, scoring a touchdown in every quarter for a 28-23 win over the Tigers. WR Jose Cruz Porras caught two TD passes for the Rockets. Goddard built a 28-7 lead early in the fourth quarter before holding off a furious Los Lunas rally in the final minutes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Conquering the World</strong>: New Mexico had encouraging success against out-of-state opponents in Week 3. Cleveland traveled to West Texas and beat Amarillo High, 35-28. Storm QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2181232' first='Michael' last='Denison']</strong> threw for 283 yards and 3 TD + 1 rushing TD. [player_tooltip player_id='1613490' first='Evan' last='Nanez'] amassed 309 all-purpose yards (152 receiving) and then spent Saturday at Texas Tech's season opener vs. Abilene Christian. . .Hobbs QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1605057' first='Junior' last='Medrano']</strong> completed 13-of-19 passes for 115 yards and rushed for 140 yards and 4 TD on a workhorse 24 carries to lift the Eagles to a thrilling 35-34 win over El Paso (TX) Parkland. . .St. Pius X traveled to southern Colorado and beat Pagosa Springs, 54-28. QB [player_tooltip player_id='1154948' first='Isaiah' last='Carpenter'] threw for 358 yards on 11 completions. Sartans WR Curtis Flakes was unstoppable with 5 receptions for 190 yards and 2 TD. RB [player_tooltip player_id='1154954' first='Hershul' last='Olloway'] scored 4 TD, two rushing and two receiving. . .Texico QB <strong>Austin Haakma</strong> completed 14-of-20 passes for 251 yards and 4 TD to lead the Wolverines to a 41-13 win over cross-border rival Farwell. RB [player_tooltip player_id='1613755' first='Cross' last='Figg'] rushed for 97 yards on 20 carries and WR [player_tooltip player_id='1791448' first='Jaheim' last='Moses'] had 4 receptions for 132 yards and 3 TD. . .Raton beat cross-border rival Trinidad (CO), 33-28.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Who's 3-0?</strong>: Several teams are 3-0 following the Week 3 results. <strong>Carlsbad</strong> served notice in non-district play that the Cavemen intend to be title contenders in District 6A-2. In Week 3, Carlsbad beat 4A Lovington, 47-14, behind a strong rushing attack featuring a pair of 100-yard rushers: QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2101127' first='Marley' last='Munoz']</strong> (117 yards) and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1605005' first='Brock' last='Wright']</strong> (100 yards). In addition, sophomore WR <strong>Jaxson Duarte</strong> caught 9 passes for 107 yards. . .<strong>Organ Mountain</strong> is also 3-0 (first time ever?) after blanking Alamogordo, 27-0, Saturday at Field of Dreams. Knights RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613370' first='Romeo' last='Jones']</strong> continued his outstanding junior season by rushing for 126 yards and 2 TD on 22 carries. WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1680055' first='Zeke' last='Weir']</strong> had 4 receptions for 70 yards. Sophomore QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2112514' first='Enrique' last='Ramirez']</strong> was an efficient 11-of-17 passing. Defensively, <strong>ILB [player_tooltip player_id='1680197' first='Joshua' last='Belmontes']</strong> led the Knights defense with 12 tackles. . .<strong>Belen</strong> rushed for 236 yards on 43 carries to beat Los Alamos, 35-21, at home and stay unbeaten. The Eagles gained 167 yards through the air on just 6 completions. QB [player_tooltip player_id='1604925' first='Gonzalo' last='Cano'] threw 2 TD passes to Vicente Story and rushed for another. . .<strong>Valencia </strong>improved to 3-0 with a 47-13 victory over Miyamura. Sophomore RB <strong>Keven Hernandez</strong> led the way with 95 yards and 1 TD on 18 carries. Centennial threw the ball just 12 times. For Artesia, heralded sophomore QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1118255' first='Chance' last='Hocker']</strong> made his varsity debut for the Bulldogs and completed a pair of passes for 102 yards and 2 TD. Centennial led, 17-0, at halftime before <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1605033' first='Dailen' last='Ramirez']</strong> returned the second half kickoff 88 yards for a TD and a 24-0 lead. . .Las Cruces (3-0) routed Mayfield in the renewal of one of the state's fiercest rivalries. The Bulldawgs have dominated the rivalry over the past decade, including Friday night's 42-0 win at Field of Dreams. Las Cruces junior QB &nbsp;<strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2182154' first='Aldo' last='Gallegos']</strong> rushed for 126 yards and 4 TD. The Bulldawgs rushed for 248 yards and averaged close to 9 yards per carry. . .Albuquerque High (2-0-1) generated just enough offense to beat Cibola. QB [player_tooltip player_id='2251173' first='Adam' last='Aguirre'] threw for 159 yards and 1 TD as the Bulldogs won a defensive battle, 12-7. <strong>Ray Rackley</strong> had 4 catches for 85 yards. Giovanni Rivera caught a TD pass for AHS, while Deven Poole ran 3 yards for a score. . .Farmington QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1680067' first='Rock' last='Kalcich']</strong> threw for 148 yards and 2 TD in the Scorpions' 26-14 loss to Durango (CO). Farmington led, 7-0, at halftime but couldn't hold the lead in the second half. . .West Mesa outscored Highland, 23-0, in the second half to beat the 5A Hornets, 37-12 at Community Stadium. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2256634' first='Noah' last='Jackson']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1680035' first='Isaiah' last='Cazares']</strong> each rushed for 2 TD for the Mustangs. Rams QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1826226' first='Jacoby' last='Bamforth']</strong> completed 13-of-20 passes for 159 yards and 4 TD, while RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613398' first='Slade' last='Segovia']</strong> rushed for 98 yards. . .Valley QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2256683' first='Jeremiah' last='Garcia']</strong> threw for 275 yards and 3 TD as the Vikings cruised past Rio Grande, 49-6, for their first victory of the season. Pojoaque Valley piled up 411 rushing yards on 42 attempts, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. . . Crownpoint first scored when the punt snap sailed over the Shiprock punter's head and was scooped up by <strong>Ely Curley</strong> at the 5-yard line. He dove into the end zone for the TD. Minutes later, Shiprock punted again. This time, Crownpoint's <strong>Todd Roanhorse</strong> returned the punt 81 yards for a TD. . .Estancia (2-1) traveled to Jal and walloped the Panthers, 39-0. The Bears built a 20-0 halftime lead and continued to expand the advantage through the second half, eventually activating the running clock. . .Eunice made the long trip to Tucumcari and knocked the Rattlers from the unbeaten ranks with a convincing 41-6 victory. . .Legacy Academy won its first&nbsp; game of the season with an impressive 41-6 win at Hozho Academy. . .Dexter overcame 146 rushing yards by Ruidoso QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613409' first='Mason' last='Fikany']</strong> to beat the Warriors, 53-14, at home. . .Tohatchi went to the Capitol City and beat knocked Santa Fe Indian from the unbeaten ranks with a 22-6 win.
