Montgomery Leads Buford to Big Win Over McBee

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>MCBEE |</strong> In search of their first win of the season, the Buford Yellow Jackets showcased a dominant offensive attack Friday night that led to a 42 to 6 victory over the McBee Panthers. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That offensive attack was led by a young duo of freshman <strong>Keyuhn Montgomery</strong> at quarterback and sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1824373' first='Sam' last='Hunter']</strong> in the backfield. Montgomery (pictured above) was a perfect 11-for-11 with 195 passing yards and two touchdowns in the air. He also carried six times for 99 yards with a touchdown on the ground. Montgomery felt good about the performance he and his teammate were able to put together.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"We really played pretty good tonight," Montgomery said. "We came together as a team, something we hadn't done yet. It felt good to get our first win and get some momentum going before next week."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While it was Montgomery who was perfect through the air and scored three touchdowns, the aforementioned Hunter also had himself a hat trick with 10 carries for 77 yards and three touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>McBee struggled offensively, but it did have sophomore running back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1816687' first='Jace' last='Ferguson']</strong> carry 12 times for 56 yards with the team's lone touchdown.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Other Buford Standouts</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Shantez Craig</strong> WR, 2029 - Craig was Montgomery's favorite target and was the recipient of one of the touchdowns. Overall, he hauled in five catches for 73 yards with a touchdown.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1822502' first='Parker' last='Ribelin']</strong> WR, 2027 - Ribelin was the recipient of the other touchdown from Montgomery and that was one of his three catches for 77 yards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1822909' first='Gage' last='Mahaffey']</strong> WR/DB, 2027 - Mahaffey was one of the standouts on both sides of the ball. Out wide, he hauled in two catches for 28 yards and defensively, he forced and recovered a fumble on the fourth play of the game to give Buford its momentum.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Grant Rhoney</strong> LB, 2027 - Rhoney collected a sack and was in on a handful of tackles. He also came up with an onside kick recovery that ended any chance of a McBee comeback.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1822910' first='Will' last='Winters']</strong> OL/DL, 2027 - Winters looks like a man among boys at 6"5' and 340 pounds. Most runs on offense go his way and most plays when he's on defense go away from him. He's shifty with the ball in his hands and breaks out of tackles that he has no business getting out of.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He can also be a threat catching passes out of the backfield in the screen game. His footwork allows him to shoot through holes and once he's off to the races, his excellent speed makes him hard to track down.
