Late Interception Leads Andrew Jackson to Win Over Lewisville

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>RICHBURG |</strong> On a night that two defenses continued to come up with one stop after another, it was ultimately the Andrew Jackson Volunteers defense that got the final stop of the night in a 20-13 win over the Lewisville Lions.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The final stop of the game came in the form of an interception by junior defensive back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1817492' first='Isaiah' last='Cunningham']</strong> on a jumped bubble screen. While Cunningham's play certainly sealed the game, it was the valiant ground attack led by senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1820137' first='Jvon' last='Kelly']</strong> that gave the Volunteers multiple scoring opportunities.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kelly (pictured above) carried 21 times for 112 yards with a touchdown and sealed the game with a first down conversion on 3rd-and-short. He has been a workhorse all season and knew he'd once again need to do that on Monday night to help get a win. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"I'm just glad to be a part of it and be trusted," Kelly said after the win. "The coaches trust me with the ball, and it was up to me to deliver. Everyone helped me do that and it was a good win for us."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Junior quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1822655' first='Brody' last='Broughton']</strong> was also a focal part of the run game, carrying nine times for 40 yards along with 113 passing yards and a touchdown.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Defensively, the Andrew Jackson defensive line lived in the backfield. Junior lineman <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1820148' first='Antonio' last='Grant']</strong> and senior lineman <strong>Caden Bowers</strong> each collected a sack. He carried four times for 25 yards and scored what was ultimately the game-winning touchdown.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Devrick Harden</strong> WR/LB, 2027 - Harden hauled in one catch for eight yards, but his impact went beyond that. He was impactful on special teams with kick returns, and his speed gave his team great field position and ultimately forced Lewisville to kick away from him.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1822644' first='Jacayden' last='Miller Anthony']</strong> DE/LB, 2027 - Miller was another defender who had an excellent night, as he was in on what felt like every other tackle. He was also excellent on defense with several pass breakups and tackles in the open field.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Matthew Cousar</strong> QB, 2027 - Despite some untimely turnovers, Cousar played a solid game. He can go from sideline to sideline on any play and was also effective in stuffing the run in the middle of the field and rushing the passer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2333411' first='Daylen' last='Cousar']</strong> DE/RB, 2030 - Cousar is another stellar player on defense. He is also excellent in timing up a blitz and being a disruptor in the backfield. He did so in a couple of different ways that make him impressive.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>His catch radius is excellent, as he made catches on throws behind him and up the ladder. He's also slippery and tough to tackle, as showcased by the 45-yard touchdown he scored in which he made multiple defenders miss.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>His speed is also sneaky, as he pulled away from defenders a couple of times when it appeared he was in trouble.
