IA Class 3A Recap from Week 2

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With all the games for Class 3A Iowa taking place on Friday night, it gave an immediate and full scope of the 3A conference of how they performed and the eventual shakeup of how this conference will look like over the coming weeks. With the 2026 high school football season in swing and in full motor, things will only heat up as time goes on, and we'll see even more action and interesting stories develop as the year develops. We take a look today at the top results and standouts from Class 3A Iowa through week 2 of the 2026 season!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Top Games:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">Roland-Story vs. <strong>Des Moines Christian: 21-15</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>The Lions were coming off a stunning week 1 victory over the 2A powerhouse Van Meter, and they earned another big win at home taking on a very strong Roland-Story offense. The Lions were able to control the game almost exclusively on the ground, compiling a total of 294 rushing yards (8.9 YPC) and 3 TDs while limiting the Norsemen to just a grand total of 7 yards of rushing. Rending Roland-Story's offense one-sided and stale, the Lions took advantage of this, forcing 2 INTs and closing any and all comeback efforts late in the 4th quarter to secure the win and a 2-0 start, pulling off another big win against a tough 2A opponent, and as they start to take on their conference going forward, they will look to build off this hot start. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1197495' first='Davis' last='Tokheim'] (SR) - </strong>Tokheim was in complete control on Friday night, completely overwhelming the Norsemen' defense as he accounted for nearly all of the Lions' rushing total. Tokheim ran for 269 yards on 26 carries (10.3 YPC) and 3 TDs while adding 3 tackles on defense and 35 combined return yards on special teams. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">Independence vs. <strong>Washington: 7-6</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>After getting blown out by the Mustangs in 2025, Washington came for vengeance, and they won in ugly fashion. It was a messy game, but the Demons were able to maintain an extra step over Independence thanks in part to a steady run game which compiled 210 total yards on the ground. Meanwhile, the Mustangs were limited to just 220 yards of total offense while throwing 3 INTs. After struggling to reach pay dirt, the Demons finally broke through with a 55 yard TD run with 8 minutes remaining in the game to take the lead. The Mustangs would respond with a TD with around 4 minutes to go, but a shanked extra point attempt kept them at a deficit, and the Demons were able to hold on to the ball and run out the clock, avenging their loss from last season and giving them their first win of the season. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='2106396' first='Liam' last='Roberts'] (JR) - </strong>The most steady performer for the Demons' offense on Friday night, Roberts led the way with 121 rushing yards on just 8 carries (15.1 YPC) and a rushing TD while adding a team-high 27 receiving yards on 3 catches. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>MOC-Floyd Valley </strong>vs. Unity Christian: <strong>14-12</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>In a close affair, the Dutchmen barely held off the Knights in a low-scoring battle. The Dutchmen played well, relying particularly strongly on their passing game, which compiled 210 of the team's 265 total yards of offense while limiting the Knights to just 229 yards of total offense. The Dutchmen led 14-6 through most of the game from the 2nd quarter. The Knights finally were able to engineer a scoring drive in the end, putting up an impressive 2 minute drill to score a TD with just 15 seconds left in the game. However, the Dutchmen held off the two-point attempt, pulling off the road win to rebound following a dismal start to their 2026 campaign. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Trycen Groendyke (SR) - </strong>Groendyke did a solid job leading the way for the Dutchmen on Friday night offensively, finishing the game 17 of 26 for 210 yards, 2 TDs, and an INT while leading the team as well with 27 rushing yards on 10 carries.
