CHESTER | One thing was clear for Chester.

Run the ball early and often.

[player_tooltip player_id='1603999' first='Caleb' last='Feaster'] (pictured above) found the end zone four times as Chester defeated their Highway 9 rival, Lewisville, 57-32 on Friday night as he was a part of a loaded Cyclones backfield that found open holes all night long.

“They should thank those guys up front. When you're as fast as Feaster and (Jeremy) Grant and fast as Jakobe (Starks), that's a blessing. We're always on the offensive line pushing them to be better. As a coach, what made me proud is our guys weren't bending over. That's what I want to see. We've got some 300-pounders and to watch them stand up right and keep going, that tells me we're on the right path,” Chester head coach Jerry Caldwell said on the run game's success.

Feaster on his running style: “I feel like I run well. I have good vision (with the ball). And I can do a lot with the ball in my hands,” Feaster said.

The Lions surprised Chester with an onside kick to kick things off after deferring until the second half. Matthew Cousar went to work with back to back quick first down throws to Mason Heath and AJ Price. That forced a Chester timeout. [player_tooltip player_id='1822439' first='Jakobe' last='Starks'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1822435' first='Zion' last='Howze'] forced a tackle for loss on a jet sweep two plays later before Cousar and Price connected on a throw on third-and-long.

Price would cap the drive off with a short touchdown run, giving the Lions the early lead at 6-0 with 8:34 to play in the first quarter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2333411' first='Daylen' last='Cousar'] would make a nice tackle for loss before a facemask penalty extended the Cyclones drive. Feaster would cap the drive with a 22-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 6 with 7:05 to play in the opening quarter as the two-point try was no good.

The first few drives for both teams were highlighted by short fields due to onside kick attempts.

And it wouldn't take Lewisville to respond as Cousar found Cedric Spence for a 42-yard gain over the middle. An offside penalty would move them inside the Chester 10 before Price would find the end zone from 2 yards out to re-take the lead at 12-6 with 3:59 to play in the first quarter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1823987' first='Jayden' last='Simpson'] made a great tackle for loss for Lewisville on the next series, putting Chester in a 4th-and-3 with 2 minutes to play in the opening quarter. An offside penalty would extend the drive. Feaster then found a wide open hole for a 36-yard touchdown run to tie the game.

Chester's defense would start to get in on the action as [player_tooltip player_id='1819933' first='Amari' last='Nesmith'] made a tackle for loss and Bentley Johnson came up with an interception to end the first quarter. Chester has a lot of youth on defense and Caldwell is aware of it.

“We're replacing some Terry Radfords of the world, Darriyarn Baxleys and Hudhaifah Taylors. There's some growing pains with it. I measure the defense by effort and physicality because those are the two things we can control. But some of the blown assignments, they are what they are. Price is an impressive young man. I met him the other day. I don't know what his recruitment is, but I'll tell you one thing – he is a one-man show. He is tough to get on the ground to be so small and I think that's super impressive to me,” Chester head coach Jerry Caldwell on his defense.

Adrian Dula helped the Cyclones capitalize on the turnover with a 24-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 20-12 with 11:06 to play before the half.

After another stop defensively for the Cyclones, Dula connected with Nesmith for a 32-yard touchdown reception to extend the lead at 28-12 with 9:27 to play before the half. The two-point try was good from Starkes.

The back-and-forth would commence as Cousar found Spence again, this time from 40 yards out to cut into the lead at 28-18 with 7:30 to play before the half.

But for every Lewisville score, they had no answer for Feaster. He had a 20-yard run to start the next drive before [player_tooltip player_id='1819931' first='Teyon' last='Land'] chipped in with an 11-yard run and Feaster capped the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run to make it 35-18 with 3:34 before the half. [player_tooltip player_id='1603965' first='Luke' last='Reed'] would get a sack on third down to end the half.

Lewisville would not go away quietly to begin the second half – Price hit a 19-yard run to get them into Chester territory. Add in a personal foul penalty and he punched it in a few players later from 1 yard out to cut the lead to 11 at 35-24 with 10:17 to play in the third quarter.

Facing 4th and 3 at the Lewisville 19-yard line near the 6-minute mark in the third quarter, the Lions' defense stuffed Feaster and it looked like they could make it a game.

Chester's Ethan Hughes made a good tackle in space on 3rd-and-long, forcing a 4th-and-long. The deep pass attempt was knocked away. It didn't take long for Chester to take advantage – Feaster found the end zone again from 24 yards out to make it 42-24 near the end of the third quarter.

Lewisville's Price would find the end zone from 18 yards out in the fourth quarter, but that's as far as they would get as the Cyclones found the end zone twice and Jayvonne Robinson picked off Cousar towards the end of regulation.

UNSUNG PLAYER OF THE GAME

Grant provided a nice one, two punch in the backfield to go along with Feaster and a Chester running game that was tough to stop all night long. He runs with patience and when he finds an open hole, he knows how to get yards and keep the offense on schedule. He had touchdown runs of 10 and 2 yards in the second half.

His versatility was on display on defense as he had a pass breakup late in the third quarter. He found a way to be around the ball as he was involved in tackles, especially against the run game.
