After a year of watching their progress it is safe to say 2029 is another loaded class when it comes to top quarterback talent.

And, as with the classes before them, it is an interesting mix of missile-firing pocket passers and dual-threat assassins who can carve up defenses through the air or on the turf.

Most QBs never get a chance to start as a freshmen, and when they have, it is usually a year of hard knocks, struggling with the speed and size of varsity players.

And as a part of that transition, it usually means a struggling stat line. In particular, the young guns usually struggle with completion percentage and are plagued by interceptions.

All things that come with QB maturity.

Every now and then there are outliers who break that trend, as with a few of the gunslingers below, but the big, efficient numbers at the freshman level are usually few and far between.

In this report, we are taking a quick look at 10 young guns who are coming off a good start to their varsity careers and are already starting to get some serious QB attention.

So, without further adieu, let's check these guys out:

[player_tooltip player_id='2127985' first='Brixton' last='Schwinn'], 6'3, 205, QB/ATH, Jefferson West, '29, (PICTURED) at the top of the 2029 Quarterback Mountain is this gunslinger who brought a mature game to the table last fall and when the dust settled he was far and away the top QB in the '29 class with numbers and execution to back it up. For the year he completed 175 of 293 for 2,388 yards, 65% completion, 32 TD's & 12 interceptions - for the most part all very seasoned numbers for a freshman. He finished strong as well, rifling 64 completions in 99 attempts for 1,092 yards and 16 total TD's in his last three games. He has a strong arm with finely-tuned mechanics and accurate ball placement on the long touch pass as well as the short surgical strikes. He is also a threat running the ball or extending plays. He has had a strong off-season hitting numerous camps in the multi-state region. With an arsenal of dangerous weapons at his disposal he is getting ready to put on a serious firework show this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1694269' first='Kipton' last='Kruger'], 5'11, 190, QB, Silver Lake, '29, next up is another rising-star gunner who put together an excellent freshman season as well when he completed 178 of 252 passes for 2,118 yards, an impressive 71% completion rate, threw 16 touchdown passes and 10 picks. All unusually high numbers for a first-year starter. This spring he helped the baseball team to a state runner-up finish and then in the summer continued to train for football and worked on timing with his receivers. He has a strong arm, good feet in the pocket and pulls the trigger quickly and efficiently on timing passes. He is one of the rare freshman QB's to throw for 2,000+ yards as well as complete over 70% of his passes. Note: his great uncle is the legendary Lon Kruger, a long-time Sunflower State coach/athlete.

[player_tooltip player_id='1488557' first='Cael' last='Claibourn'] , 6'2, 200, QB, Emporia, '29, he quickly acclimated to the varsity game last fall and gave fans a glimpse of things to come, running and passing for 250+ yards and three touchdowns. He has smooth mechanics in the pocket and can make all the passes required, from laser strikes in the short game to the deep velocity shots attacking the third level. He is also athletic and moves well outside the pocket and when extending plays. He has had a strong off-season fine-tuning his game playing 7v7 and showcasing his talents on the camp circuit. Look for this baller QB to help accelerate the Emporia turnaround this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2128205' first='Chase' last='Cain'] , 6'1, 175, QB/ATH, Olathe North, '29, he is a multi-sport, dual-threat quarterback who ran and passed for 1,800+ total yards and 24 touchdowns on the freshman/JV squad and was 5 of 10 for 77 yards in late-season varsity action. He has good footwork with solid mechanics in the pocket, with good accuracy throwing quick timing strikes and has a nice touch on the deep vertical passes. He is also athletic on the perimeter, throwing off platform and from different launch angles. This guy was just getting warmed up last year and is ready to take it to the next level this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1738191' first='Kellen' last='Weisguth'] , 6'0, 180, QB, Blue Valley West, '29, he saw some limited time last season backing up a senior QB so there weren't many opportunities but when he played freshman/JV ball he was a gunslinger, completing 136 passes in 233 attempts for 2,171 yards, a 60% completion percentage, 27 TD passes and scored three times on the ground. His passing mechanics are smooth, with a tight shoulder rotation and quick release. He throws an accurate ball, zipping it into tight windows in the short-to-intermediate game but has the arm strength to dial up the deep ball. This guy is ready to take it to the next level with a standout season this fall.

HONORABLE MENTION:

[player_tooltip player_id='1907979' first='Tommy' last='Burgess'], 5'10, 165, QB/ATH, Shawnee Mission East, '29, he is a dual-threat quarterback getting ready to lead the Lancer's powerful flexbone offense this fall. He plays a high-IQ game with good decision making and ball placement from the pocket or on the move. He is also an athletic, elusive runner who makes quick cuts running to daylight and has the burst to be dangerous extending plays or running the RPO.

[player_tooltip player_id='2158573' first='Braigan' last='Dinkel'], 5'11, 175, QB/DB, Russell,'29, he is another dual-threat QB who can beat teams with his arm or his legs. He throws an accurate ball on the short-to-intermediate passes and can launch the long ball with touch. He is also athletic and elusive running the ball off the RPO. Last year he backed up an all-state QB, while picking up varsity experience in other positions and special teams and is ready for the next step.

[player_tooltip player_id='2143539' first='Tatum' last='Heavner'], 5'11, 170, QB/ATH, Garden City, '29, an ultra-rare class 6A freshman QB starter who delivered some outstanding numbers: 116-176, 1,362 yds, 66%, 13 TD passes, 3 picks.

Jacob Beaulieu, 6'0, 175, QB/ATH, SMA, '29, another outstanding freshman flying under the radar so far but delivered good numbers in his first year: 101-202 1,403 yds, 50%, 15 TD passes 10 picks.

Truitt King, 6'6, 200, QB/ATH, Beloit, '29, with prototype size already, he is a commanding presence in the pocket and coupled with a strong freshman stat line he is getting ready to get flooded with attention: 89-150, 1,820, yds, 60%, 14 TD passes, 5 picks.

In conclusion, get out and see these guys air it out this fall - you will not be disappointed!

And, as usual…

Keep grindin'

After a year of watching their progress it is safe to say 2029 is another loaded class when it comes to top quarterback talent.
