Team Preview - Tomball Cougars

The Cougars will look to continue their winning ways after losing 52 lettermen players from last season. After a 9-3 season including a 6-2 district record and a run into the second round of the playoffs, Coach Handal will look to reload the roster and build on the recent success. The Cougars are a team who will rely on their strengths and allow their playmakers dictate the game. Look for them to lean on their seniors and their culture next season, using both as a foundation to start the season on a role and guide them to a successful year.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   The Cougars will be returning just 3 offensive starters this upcoming season. The will look to establish the run-game behind the two-headed monster at running back. Do-it-all junior back [player_tooltip player_id='1825955' first='Ian' last='Thomas'] who ran for 1,544 yards and 22 touchdowns, and senior power back [player_tooltip player_id='1660901' first='Trevon' last='Johnson'] who rushed for 689 yards along with 6 touchdowns. These two will be the focal point of the offense, setting the tone early and leading the way all year long. Senior tackle Jacob Minuti returns as the top lineman, protecting the edge and creating running lanes off the line, recording 40 pancakes last season. A player to keep an eye on will be junior receiver Max Westling. At 6'2, the track star will be an explosive threat both on the ground and in the air. This team will be built on the running game. Last season the Cougars averaged 244 rushing yards per game and will look to replicate this number. Senior Bennett Tucker comes back as the sack leader with his crafty play, high motor, and veratility on the line. Last season he tallied 48 atackles with 2.5 sacks. Next is senior defensive end Dawson Siegert who recorded 58 tackles with 2 sacks. At the second level, junior linebacker Wyatt Diffendal returns after a productive season with 36 tackles including 14 TFLs. The secondary will be the strongest unit defensively, returning two of the teams top tacklers and playmakers. Senior safety Caleb Gafford is a high IQ player who reads and reacts accordingly and attacks with physicality . He finished last season with 60 tackles and 3 interceptions. Gafford is a two-sport star who knows how to win. Next to him, senior athlete [player_tooltip player_id='473877' first='Chance' last='Green'] is back after an outstanding season. With 61 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries, he found ways to impact the game. He will be playing both sides of the ball come fall and will be a key contributor to the teams success. Senior corner Landon Reynolds is back after a stellar year, I interception, 6 PBUs, and 32 tackles.
