Oregon 2027 football rankings: Discussing 11-20

Jordan Johnson and I recently released our updated Oregon class of 2027 rankings.   We both felt compelled to give our thoughts on the group individually to highlight how we feel about each prospect.   This group features some significant risers and a couple of players who may need big senior campaigns to allow for their recruitment to match what we feel is their rightful recruitment lelve.   No. 11 and No. 14 on this list, in particular, made big impressions with MVP showings in mega-camp settings.   11. OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id='937240' first='Isaiah' last='Ormond'], Tualatin — The former Mountainside lineman transferred to potential state-title contender Tualatin, giving them some size up front.   But this offseason, the question was, “How much of an impact can Ormond have?”   Admittedly, it was one of my biggest questions of the offseason.   Ormond addressed that inquiry emphatically at The Northwest Showcase, putting together a dominant display of technique and power.   The 6-foot-2, 300-pound interior defensive lineman earned an MVP award and picked up offers from Eastern Washington and Portland State.   Frankly, he looked like an FBS prospect, and it wouldn't be a surprise at all to see Pac-12 schools, perhaps even Oregon State, enter the mix if he has a strong early senior campaign.   Ormond is one of my personal highest-risers in the class of 2027, and he gives the Timberwolves a true disruptor on the interior.    12. TE [player_tooltip player_id='2088972' first='Luke' last='Brainard'], Wilsonville —The 6-foot-7, 225-pound tight end/defensive end is one of the biggest mismatches in the entire state.   Brainard put an end to his recruitment in mid-June with a commitment to Colorado State, but I do wonder if other schools will get involved when they see his progress during the fall season.   He's one of the most intriguing players in the state given his frame and his academic prowess (4.0 GPA student).    13. QB [player_tooltip player_id='1358896' first='Andrew' last='Guthrie'], Summit — There's an intriguing collection of 2027 quarterbacks who have had strong summers and proven they are small college prospects.   Rising above them all has been Summit's [player_tooltip player_id='1358896' first='Andrew' last='Guthrie'].   Aa a junior, he was the IMC Offensive Player of the Year, throwing for 2,062 yards with 32 touchdowns and just four interceptions.   An even better year could be on the horizon.    Perhaps that's why so many Division I schools have expressed interest.   Guthrie is committed to Northern Arizona and could prove to be a steal for the Lumberjacks.   14. ATH [player_tooltip player_id='937241' first='Cole' last='Hachmeister'], Tualatin — In just five games last fall, wide receiver/running back/playmaker [player_tooltip player_id='937241' first='Cole' last='Hachmeister'] racked up 851 total yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 9.2 yards per carry.   The 5-foot-9, 180-pound speedster has returned this offseason and shown why he was one of the state's most electric playmakers.   Hachmeister won a positional MVP award at The Northwest Showcase and picked up offers from Western Kentucky and Portland State.   He will work alongside sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2079648' first='Easton' last='Grubb'] and potential all-state bruiser idea Rule to make up what should be the most dynamic backfield in the entire state.   That trio might be the best 1-2-3 the state has seen in years.   15. OL [player_tooltip player_id='1593163' first='Ben' last='Goalen'], Summit — The 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman is the second Summit player on the list.   The Storm don't get enough credit for the talent they churn out year after year, and Goalen is the latest example.   The talented lineman was a first-team all-state selection, but that doesn't fully tell the story.   Goalen's tape and frame speak to his potential to emerge as a late bloomer who generates significant Division I interest.   He's one of my top “must-see” tapes of the early season, because if he's made the leap he could be a steal.    16. ATH [player_tooltip player_id='935357' first='Josiah' last='Hawkins'], Cascade — I'll admit Jordan Johnson did a much better job evaluating [player_tooltip player_id='935357' first='Josiah' last='Hawkins'].   I wasn't entirely sure what to make of his tape at the 4A level.   But I became a convert after seeing him at The Northwest Showcase.   The two-way first-team all-state playmaker was a problem on both sides of the ball in one-on-ones  looked like a surefire FCS-caliber prospect.   Hawkins would be one of the state's most electric playmakers regardless of what level he played at.   He's a special, quick-twitch playmaker    17. WR [player_tooltip player_id='1369697' first='Talon' last='Sosky'], Central Catholic —The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pass-catcher has slowly grown into a wide receiver/tight end hybrid.   Similarly, he's a guy who has always been on the radar and just seems to quietly climb up the rankings every time there's an update.   Sosky collected a host of Ivy League offers before making a commitment to Nevada.   The Wolfpack got themselves a good one.    18. LB [player_tooltip player_id='937338' first='Cash' last='Wilks'], Lake Oswego — Admittedly, I made a mistake not including Wilks on my midseason all-state list.   He ended up being a first-team all-state selection on both our list and the official team.   Since then, I've become a big believer.   The son of a former Nebraska Cornhusker, Wilks is a force at the linebacker position and led the Lakers state-title team in tackles (79).   An even bigger season could be not he horizon.   I'm not sure why his recruitment hasn't taken off more.   The 6-foot-2, 220-pound defender looks like he could develop in a Division I prospect and someone is going to get a steal with him when they scoop him up.    19. WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1242623' first='Cavan' last='Rogers'], Wilsonville — In just six games at Oregon City last fall, Rogers racked up 40 receptions, 695 yards and five touchdowns - with one of the best catches you'll ever see.   Now at Wilsonville, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound playmaker should top the 1,000-yard mark and will likely push to be the state's leading receiver.   That's far from a reach, as he was already on that pace in a tough Three Rivers League last year.   Rogers hasn't had a ton of recruiting attention, but he may force the issue if he breaks out with a 600-yard highlight from the first three games of the season.    20. ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1119870' first='Jamison' last='Walsh'], Cascade —The most prospect-laden 4A team in Oregon is clearly Cascade, which boasts both Walsh and Hawkins.   That's a scary combo for defenses to deal with.   Walsh is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound tight end/defensive end/longsnapper who may get some big opportunities on special teams as a 4.5-star recruit.   After being a first-team all-state tight end and second-team all-state defensive end last year he will likely jump to a two-way first-teamer this fall.    While Walsh is listed at No. 20, the school he eventually chooses could look more impressive than those around him due to his excellent snapping ability.
