It's team preview season here at Prep Redzone, and we're in the process of breaking down teams in every classification across the state. Beneath the state-title contenders, there's a class of teams with the talent to challenge top teams and who are looking to break through and take the next step. The Enloe Eagles finished 6-5 last year in a difficult conference. What could they do in 2026?

Key Storyline

The Enloe offense returns four offensive linemen, its quarterback, and a handful of skill position players who played minor roles last year. There's plenty of young talent, but they're unproven. If a playmaker or two steps up, it will significantly raise the offense's floor and put the Eagles in position to compete with some of the better teams in the conference.

Gorga played well enough last season to likely earn more opportunities as a passer in 2026. He throws a nice ball and is an excellent leader. Enloe needs him to elevate the guys around him, especially as the offense loses some of its top playmakers at the skill positions.

A long, lanky edge rusher, Stanford came on strong at the end of his sophomore season and has worked hard this offseason to add weight. He's looking bigger, stronger, and faster, and is a matchup nightmare on the edge. If he takes a step forward, it will have a huge positive impact on the defense.

Though undersized, Creath is one of the most productive linebackers in the CAP 8A conference. He's a sure tackler, and he's athletic enough in small spaces to flex out and cover guys in the slot. He'll anchor an inexperienced but talented defense.

No Enloe preview can be complete without mentioning the offensive line. Led by tackle duo [player_tooltip player_id='1649251' first='Noah' last='Nelson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1649248' first='Sam' last='Offor'], the Eagles return four starters up front. Center [player_tooltip player_id='1719965' first='James' last='Jones'] and guard Zion Bullock also return, and the Eagles average around 300 pounds up front. There's a question mark at running back, but whoever starts at that position should have room to run behind the big boys up front.

Biggest Losses

Chase White | WR/RB- Possibly the smallest starter in all of 8A, White was electric, finishing with 700 rushing yards and a team-high 42 catches. They'll miss him offensively, and receivers Kameron Wright and Robert Lamar will be counted on to step up.

Michael Clark | DB- Clark added much-needed size and versatility to the secondary. Look for junior [player_tooltip player_id='2243023' first='Justin' last='Matthews'] to step up as a potential replacement.

Ziyeir McLean-Leach | RB/WR/DB- McLean-Leach transferred out after a strong junior year. While Enloe will miss him, there are several younger guys with the potential to fill the gap.

Breakout Candidates

Chapman sat behind a strong group of seniors last year, but he'll have the opportunity to compete for a starting spot on a team that may look to throw more in 2026. The Eagles must find a go-to guy at receiver. Can Chapman step up?

Matthews played sparingly on varsity last year, but the coaching staff thinks he's a star in the making. Can he step up to fill a void in the secondary? If he can, the defense as a whole should be a fairly solid unit with few glaring weaknesses.

Dobbin isn't the biggest guy, but he's effective as a run-support safety, and the Eagles will rely on him to be an anchor in the back. He has some pass coverage upside, and if he can continue to improve, so will the defense.

The Verdict

I'm a bit concerned by the lack of productive returners at the skill positions. That being said, it's typically easier to replace those guys than the big boys up front, and the Enloe offensive line should be elite.

We should know early in the year which way this will go. If the Eagles have found some offensive rhythm by the start of the conference slate, they'll slot in just below Rolesville and Millbrook, two of 8A's elite teams. That would put them in a position to make a playoff run.

The Eagles are building, but as with every budding contender, some questions need to be answered before we call them a legitimate contender. That being said, I love the infrastructure, and I foresee the Eagles putting up a third-straight winning season (and perhaps their first-ever playoff win).

A special thanks to Enloe head coach Ryan Clark for sharing his prospect sheet and thoughts on his team.
