The Class of 2029 is still at the beginning of its high school football journey, but that doesn't mean it's too early to start identifying young players worth following. Development can happen quickly at this age, and the next few seasons will tell us much more about where each prospect ultimately projects. For now, these Illinois athletes are five early names to keep on the radar as the 2029 class begins to emerge.

Andrew Brown | Johnston City

Brown is an intriguing young athlete coming out of Johnston City and is listed at wide receiver and safety. He enters high school with a solid physical foundation and should have plenty of time to continue developing on both sides of the football. As his role grows, Brown will be an interesting Southern Illinois prospect to track.

Gabriel Gill | Carterville

Gill is listed at tight end and outside linebacker, giving him an interesting two-way profile early in his career. His ability to contribute on both sides of the line of scrimmage should give Carterville options as he develops. The next few seasons will be important as Gill continues to grow and begins carving out his role at the varsity level.

Bentley Hutson | Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond

Hutson brings versatility as a running back and outside linebacker. That two-way background gives him an opportunity to impact games in several different ways as his high school career progresses. With plenty of development still ahead, Hutson is a Central Illinois name worth getting familiar with early.

Jonathan Meek | Freeburg

Meek is listed as a wide receiver and safety and gives Freeburg another young athlete to develop. Players who gain experience on both sides of the football often have an opportunity to showcase a broader skill set early in their careers. Meek will be one to follow as he works toward a larger role within the program.

Carlito Mitchel | Jacksonville

Mitchel enters the 2029 class as a running back and cornerback, providing an intriguing combination of offensive and defensive experience. His versatility should create opportunities to get onto the field as he develops. Jacksonville has several younger prospects appearing on the radar, and Mitchel is another name to watch from the program.
