MYRTLE BEACH | It's not officially summer until pigskins start flying.

High temperatures and high spirits were the order of the day at Socastee's FCA-hosted 7-on-7 event Wednesday morning. Programs across the Grand Strand & Pee Dee took to the field to test their aerial abilities less than two months before the start of the 2026 football season.

While the local big names were present and making plays, several lesser-known commodities also stood out.

Cliff Burch WR, Carolina Forest – Burch is a crafty slot receiver who worked his way into space for some crucial catches throughout the day for the Panthers. He also showed good footwork off the line of scrimmage and a burst that helped him break open on several deep routes.

Scott Campbell DB, Atlantic Collegiate – Campbell covered well against some very athletic wide receivers, especially in the Armada's opening session against North Myrtle Beach. The 5-foot-8 corner held his own despite facing taller opponents all morning. His ability to not give up the deep ball helped slow down opposing offenses and give Atlantic Collegiate more chances to make stops.

[player_tooltip player_id='1824297' first='Angelo' last='Crescenzi'] DB, Atlantic Collegiate – Crescenzi was an impressive presence on the Armada defense, especially when opposing wideouts came over the middle. The rising junior didn't shy away from contact, making multiple aggressive plays on the ball that resulted in several nice pass breakups.

Marcus Duke QB, Socastee – Duke was very decisive in the pocket and read the field well throughout the event. Although only a sophomore, he displayed impressive ball placement on several throws into traffic and lofted passes between layers of defenders on the sideline on multiple occasions.

[player_tooltip player_id='1858340' first='Jonathan' last='Mason'] S, St. James – Mason has great size for a safety and his length served as a deterrent for quarterbacks looking to take shots down the middle of the field all day. He anticipated several routes nicely and was able to not get lost in traffic. His best trait may have been his communication as he kept the Shark secondary on the same page as its vocal leader.

Demarco Ravenel LB, Loris – Not all of the action came from the varsity squads. Competing with the Lions' JV team, Ravenel stood out as a heady player who showed good instincts in zone coverage. The rising sophomore also flashed an ability to run with tailbacks out of the backfield.

Ayden Scott QB, Loris – Filling Moon Gerald's shoes will be no easy task, but Scott has the makings of a strong signal-caller for the Lions. He drove the ball easily don the field on a couple of eye-catching long passes. His throwing motion, while slightly long, still manages to snap the ball out quickly.

Taron Scott WR, North Myrtle Beach – Scott showcased his speed underneath and the ability to turn the corner and outrun defenders in the Chiefs' short passing attack, but also proved to be a viable deep threat. His best sequence came in North Myrtle's matchup with Socastee, when he caught two touchdowns in a span of four plays.

Amir Thompson WR, Socastee – A sure-handed wide receiver on the Braves' JV squad, Thompson didn't hesitate to go over the middle and made some nice contested catches. His footwork off the line also helped him break open multiple times, particularly on slant patterns.

Caden Wood QB, Carolina Forest – As one of three quarterbacks orchestrating the Panthers' JV offense, Wood stood out. He throws a very tight spiral and made quick and precise reads throughout the morning. His ability was most evident in goal-line situations, where his accuracy on short passes jumped out.
