Six 2028 prospects whose track showings warrant closer looks

Prep Redzone Louisiana always makes a concerted effort to spotlight some of the most notable football-relevant takeaways from track seasons in the winter and spring.   This year has featured more coverage of the sport than ever, including some particularly memorable and notable — even record-breaking — performances by some of the state's top football prospects.   Articles following outdoor state championships have already included notes on all performers who scored points for their schools in individual events and organized and categorized lists of top football performers in all events regardless of school classification.   As we wrap up our complete coverage of the season, we wanted to spotlight some potentially less-heralded or -heavily recruited prospects whose speed, explosiveness and all-around athleticism was underscored by their showings in track and field and should garner some closer looks from college coaches.   Here's a look at six rising juniors of particular note in this context.   [player_tooltip player_id='1801582' first='Landon' last='Mitchell'] — 5-11, 150 DB/ATH — LaGrange   Mitchell has already been a productive two-way playmaker throughout his first couple of years of high school as both a ballhawk on defense and vertical threat on offense. And this spring he added a strong track season to his résumé, including a 15.18-second 110-meter hurdles that was among the best times among all football players at state. His 300-meter showing wasn't his best, although that bar is notably high with both school and meet records under his belt in that event at previous meets this spring.   Jaden Moffitt — 5-11, 165 WR — Catholic- Baton Rouge   The Bears' running backs have dominated more of the program's recruiting headlines the past couple years in terms of its offensive weapons. But a couple young receivers have started to emerge, and Moffitt flashed some of his speed this spring that makes him a dangerous targets with his 10.82-second 100-meter dash and anchor leg of a silver-winning, 41.60-second 4x100-meter relay.   [player_tooltip player_id='1545020' first='Braylon' last='Moore'] — 6-2, 180 WR — North DeSoto   Moore has been a highly ranked prospect on Prep Redzone Louisiana lists from early in his career as a big target with good routes and strong, reliable hands that helped make him a productive weapon for the state runner-up Griffins with 33 catches for 633 yards and six scores. He figures to continue garnering closer college looks, particularly if he can check boxes with verified speed and other testing. So wrapping his sophomore year with one of the top high-jump marks (6-00.00) among football athletes is a nice springboard into the offseason.   Carter Rivet — 6-0, 220 DL/OL — Alexandria   Football recruiting may ultimately prove a moot point for the Trojans' versatile standout, who is among the nation's top young track prospects already earning interest from major programs in that sport. Rivet wrapped his sophomore high school season with discus gold (186-07) and shotput silver (57-02.25) and should have the opportunity this year to continue showing his football ability as well with an anticipated role shift from offensive tackle to defensive end with some additional potential to see some offensive snaps in more of an H-back capacity.   [player_tooltip player_id='1372211' first='Ty' last='Walsworth'] — 6-1, 190 WR — Loyola Prep   Another longtime Prep Redzone Louisiana-ranked prospect had made one of the bigger statements among football players at this year's track and field state championships with a strong finish to the Class 4A 100-meter dash to edge a highly touted rising senior prospect for an electric victory and 10.64-second time. The time was third-best among all football athletes in all classifications, behind only one of the nation's elite 2027 prospects and college-bound graduating 2026 senior.   Aydan Zenon — 6-1, 170 DB/LB — St. James   The Wildcats are among the state's perennial contenders each fall and each spring showcase notable football flavor on the track, and the rising junior defensive athlete was a definitely standout in this year's state performance with a third-place 300-meter hurdles (40.82 seconds) and an anchor leg to a third-place 4x400-meter relay (3:25.96). His individual event was the 11th-best time among all football athletes at the meet in all classifications.
