Keiser University Continues To Set Team Padded Camp Standards

WEST PALM BEACH – While the NCAA continues to push their weight around when it comes to their member schools hosting different events on their campus, schools such as Keiser University are taking full advantage and are the talk of Florida college football.

Easily the most successful collegiate football program in Florida over the past three seasons – with consecutive appearances in the NAIA national championship game, head coach Myles Russ and his assistants are setting standards in the summer.

While programs such as FAU and UCF were destinations during the summer for padded camps in the past, the NCAA stepped in and put their iron fist down to tell those programs and other schools that they could any camp they would like – as long as it wasn't fully padded.

For the past five plus years, the Seahawks have taken the ball and ran with it, hosting a six-session, three-day event for teams to come and scrimmage in pads, gaining a huge advantage over their opponents.

“This is like having six extra practices for our players,” said Miami Lakes Barbara Goleman head coach Ariel Cribeiro. “Whether it's our younger players or veterans, the work we get in against top-flight talent is something that is a huge boost to our program.”

Goleman was just one of several teams who came to the Keiser University campus to get in some impressive work. Teams came from throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and across the state.

Several teams have made this event part of their summer training. While many still go to colleges and universities across the state and country to compete in 7-on-7 tournaments and linemen camps, the trip to West Palm Beach is very much a part of their plan for June.

In addition to Goleman, other Miami-Dade schools on hand were Miami Felix Varela, Doral Academy and Miami Ferguson and head coach Gene Chew, who is one of those coaches who has taken his teams to this annual summer showcase since the days of FAU.

The opportunity to have his players go up against some quality talent in the middle of the summer is something the Coach Chew and his program thrives on – and he sees the results during the course of a season.

“For our players who have been here before, they know exactly what to expect,” Chew explained. “The newer players get a bit of a wakeup call and it takes a few sessions for them to get adjusted to the physicality of these practices.”

Other programs on hand included Pembroke Pines Flanagan from Broward; Wellington Palm Beach Central, Delray Beach Atlantic, Wellington, Lake Worth Dr. Joaquin Garcia and American Heritage Delray. Tarpon Springs East Lake and St. Petersburg Gibbs returned once again this year, and Dunedin and Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast came down to take part this year as well.

“The players and teams have such a great time competing,” Coach Russ explained. “For three days, it is so much fun to watch these players learn and get after it. It's pretty much the centerpiece of our summer camp season.”

Prep Redzone Florida Class of 2028 Spring Ranking Features Nearly 500 Prospects. https://prepredzone.com/2026/05/prz-florida-2028-spring-ranking-features-nearly-500-prospects/

Statewide Coverage Daily. https://prepredzone.com/florida/

You Can Contact Larry Blustein with prospect or team information at: Floridakids1@aol.com.

COACHES, PLAYERS: Do You Have A Subscription?
