Camping Season: WNMU In Albuquerque (Recap and Video)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>ALBUQUERQUE</strong> – Western New Mexico held its annual one-day camp at La Cueva High School on Saturday. Many of the region's top players showed up to compete. Here is the position breakdown:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>QUARTERBACK</strong>: Attending his fourth camp in eight days, 2029 Los Lunas QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2178840' first='Rohan' last='Patel']</strong> earned MVP honors, edging out 2029 Eldorado QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2178505' first='Landon' last='Smith']</strong> for the honor. Both guys have good size (about 6-3), possess excellent pocket presence and can sling it all over the field with pinpoint accuracy.&nbsp; The QB group also included <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1362443' first='Izaiah' last='Casaus']</strong> (Atrisco Heritage), <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1183085' first='Monty' last='Melendez']</strong> (La Cueva), <strong>Cainen Montano</strong> (La Cueva) and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2109032' first='George' last='Salzano']</strong> (Highland). Overall, an impressive group. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>RUNNING BACK</strong>: Rising junior <strong>J Hathaway</strong> was one of the breakout stars of the camp, earning MVP honors. He first ran one of the fastest 40 times of the day (4.5) before showing off that speed and quickness in RB drills and 1-on-1 situations. Teammate <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1629861' first='Vaughn' last='Saunders']</strong> is the Thunder half with great size (6-2, 220 pounds) and physical skills. Saunder was offered by WNMU after the camp. Saunders and Hathaway should be quite a duo for the Bears in the fall. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>WIDE RECEIVER</strong>: As expected, 2027 Eldorado WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155116' first='Jahari' last='Morehead']</strong> brought the speed and dynamic athleticism to the camp and was named MVP. But he was far from the only impressive WR there. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155114' first='Deon' last='Session']</strong> (Atrisco Heritage) and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1605990' first='Darrien' last='Williams']</strong> (Hope Christian) were two more standout performers, and both earned offers from WNMU after the camp. Morehead was offered as well. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2078851' first='Amari' last='Clark']</strong> of Eldorado ran a 4.6 in the 40 and showed nice hands and excellent route-running skills. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613367' first='Cash' last='Brewer']</strong> of La Cueva stood out at tight end. &nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>OFFNSIVE LINE</strong>: A new name emerged on&nbsp; Saturday. 2027 Cleveland OL <strong>Lucas Carrica</strong> earned MVP honors. He is expected to start at one of the guard spots for the Storm. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2057110' first='Josiah' last='Fayne'] (</strong>Eldorado), <strong>David Iguado</strong> (Albuquerque High), <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1685105' first='Julius' last='Lueras']</strong> (Albuquerque High), <strong>Justice Salinas</strong> (Rio Rancho) and 6-foot-5 <strong>Theodore Jack</strong> (La Cueva) were standouts as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>DEFENSIVE LINE</strong>: Possibly the deepest position at the camp. La Cueva rising senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2153523' first='Ifeoluwa' last='Samuel Abiodun']</strong> was the MVP as he edged out three players who were later offered by WNMU: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1604734' first='Jacari' last='Smith']</strong> (Rio Rancho), <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1679768' first='Joaquin' last='Manning']</strong> (Cleveland) and <strong>Vincent Varela</strong> (Manzano). Rising sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114810' first='Mack' last='Madrid'] </strong>(Eldorado) and rising junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1586973' first='Dane' last='Russell']</strong> (St. Pius X) are emerging stars. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>LINEBACKER</strong>: 2027 Sandia LB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155132' first='Aiden' last='Maldonado']</strong> is a camp warrior, and he earned his second offer in less than 24 hours after another exceptional performance on Saturday. He has outstanding lateral mobility, which is why he usually posts one of the fastest times in the 5-10-10 and L-Drills. Both WNMU and NM Highlands have now offered.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>SECONDARY</strong>: 2027 St. Pius X WR/DB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155012' first='Curtis' last='Flakes III']</strong> is a two-way standout for the Sartans but he's being recruited mainly as a DB. He has excellent speed and is a ball hawk.
