2026 Team Preview: Bloomfield Bobcats

<p>All Bloomfield does is win. Over the past four seasons, the Bobcats have won three Class 4A state championships and compiled an impressive record of 47-3. Last time Bloomfield suffered more than two losses in a single season? 2018. Players may come and go but Bloomfield keeps lifting the blue trophy on Thanksgiving weekend. This season, the Bobcats are striving for the three-peat in 4A. What Bloomfield isn't doing is resting on past laurels. Their offseason looks a lot like other teams.</p>

<p>“Right now, it's about the first chapters, which is the weight room, showing up and getting reps,” Bloomfield coach Mike Kovacs told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “That's what we're focused on right now, taking care of the little things. We trying to get the kids who didn't get a lot of reps last year up to speed. We're excited. Our culture has been very good to us. Summer is about the seniors leading the juniors and sophomores into the next season. There's a lot of buy-in. We're not living in the past.”</p>

<p>In 2026, Bloomfield will compete in a nine-team District 4A-1 along with Bernalillo, Del Norte, Espanola Valley, Grants, Manzano, Rio Grande, Taos and Valley. </p>

<p><strong>OFFENSE</strong></p>

<p>A pair of rising sophomores are battling to take over as the Bobcats' starting quarterback: 6-foot-3 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114514' first='Wyatt' last='Babcock']</strong>, last season's primary backup, and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1636202' first='Kaison' last='Meador']</strong>. The latter is currently battling an injured hand. Both are generally pocket passers, but can run when they have to. In order to help their young QBs, Bloomfield intends to emphasize a quick passing game and running the football. </p>

<p>“Wyatt is getting the majority of the reps since Kaison is injured,” Kovacs said. “We're trying to get both of them ready to step up. We'll see who wants the job more and who performs throughout the summer in the weight room, leadership and football knowledge. We'll let them battle it out all the way to the scrimmage (in preseason camp). Our expectations are high for both of them. We want them to get the ball out, move down the field and let them get comfortable before we gun sling it around the field.”</p>

<p>Bloomfield's top four rushers last season were seniors. Rising senior <strong>Tayetom Callado </strong>has experience at RB, so he'll get an opportunity to run the football after playing mostly wide receiver in 2025. Rising junior <strong>Ayden George</strong> and rising sophomore <strong>Abel Archuleta</strong> will get carries as well. Bloomfield strives for a ‘three-headed monster' at RB.</p>

<p>“I think we're going to be OK at running back,” Kovacs said. “We still have speed.”</p>

<p>Rising junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1826139' first='Cable' last='Carruth']</strong> is the top returning receiver, and the only one back who had double digit receptions in 2025. He'll be joined by rising seniors <strong>Marcus Garcia</strong> and <strong>Markeith Childress</strong>. Additional support should come from rising juniors <strong>Packer Ordyna</strong> and <strong>Joey Gutierrez</strong>.</p>

<p>Three of the five offensive line starters from last season are back. The unit will be anchored by First-Team All-State center <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1604759' first='Johnny' last='Yates']</strong>. He'll be joined by Honorable Mention All-State selection <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2104135' first='Marius' last='Benally']</strong> and promising rising sophomore <strong>Teryn Callado</strong>. The newcomers are rising seniors <strong>Jeraron Murphy</strong> and <strong>Owen Curley</strong>. </p>

<p><strong>DEFENSE</strong></p>

<p>First-Team All-State defensive end/outside linebacker <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1790852' first='Devon' last='Garcia']</strong> is the Bobcats' top returning tackler. He had 64 tackles, 8.0 TFL and an impressive 19 QB hurries last season.</p>

<p>Rising senior <strong>Michael Hadley</strong> returns after missing most of last season with an injury. First-Team All-State DL <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2108770' first='Trenton' last='Burkhow']</strong> returns as well to team with Garcia and rising junior <strong>Brex Morris</strong>. Rising sophomore <strong>Kyros Daniels</strong> is expected to see action on the DL.</p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1826139' first='Cable' last='Carruth']</strong> will play safety. Second-Team All-State DB <strong>Markeith Childress</strong> will start at cornerback along with new starter <strong>Bryce Lance</strong>, a rising senior. <strong>Tayetom Callado</strong> was a First-Team All-State DB in 2025. He had five interceptions last season.</p>
