Spring Ball Review: Polk County Performers Elevated Their Stock

From established Division I recruits continuing to separate themselves to young underclassmen emerging as future stars, Polk County remains loaded with talent at every position group.    Quarterbacks   Brody Brenneman | QB | 2027 | Lakeland Christian | @brody_brenneman   Brenneman continues to establish himself as one of the top 2027 quarterbacks in the state of Florida. His efficiency, poise, and command of the offense stood out throughout the spring. Has developed into his frame and consistently delivered accurate throws at all three levels. With Division I offers continuing to arrive and a talented supporting cast returning, he looks positioned for a major senior campaign and another deep playoff run.   Kelin Hendrix | QB | 2027 | Lakeland | @HendrixKelin   Hendrix remains one of the most dynamic offensive players in the state. His ability to stress defenses both through the air and on the ground creates constant problems for opposing coordinators. This spring, he looked noticeably bigger, stronger, and more comfortable operating within the pocket while still maintaining his explosive playmaking ability. His mechanics have improved, the ball comes out cleaner, and his confidence continues to grow. Lakeland's offense will go as far as Hendrix takes it.   Teo Edwards | QB | 2029 | Auburndale | @EdwardsTeo7   For a QB prospect entering his sophomore season, Edwards continues to show solid poise and maturity. He processes information quickly, stays calm under pressure, and already demonstrates a strong understanding of situational football. The arm talent is evident, but what stands out most is his confidence and leadership presence. Edwards looks every bit like one of Florida's top young quarterback prospects.   Kingston Loydd | QB | 2029 | Lake Wales | @KingstonL50761   Loydd continues to impress with how naturally he handles the quarterback position. He throws with touch, displays good pocket awareness, and shows command beyond his years. Physically, he's beginning to grow into his frame while maintaining strong fundamentals. The upside is significant, and he's another young quarterback who appears well ahead of schedule.   Amire Hall | QB | 2027 | Bartow | @Neweramire   Hall put together one of the better spring performances in Polk County. The dual-threat quarterback accounted for 200+ passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and a rushing score in Bartow's 29-6 win over George Jenkins. His footwork, timing, and confidence have all taken a step forward. Hall looks ready for a big senior season. The left-hander throws with confidence, has a quick release, and brings enough athleticism to stress defenses outside the pocket. Purdy impacts games on offense, defense, and special teams at an elite level. His spring performance once again showcased the explosiveness and versatility that have made him one of Florida's top recruits. Whether it's taking a deep ball the distance, making plays in coverage, or changing momentum with a special teams play, Purdy simply finds ways to dominate games.   Joseph Howard | WR | 2027 | Lakeland | @jokerwondr   Howard's development continues to be impressive. His speed immediately grabs attention, but his route detail and ability to separate consistently are what make him dangerous. He stretches defenses vertically while also creating explosive plays after the catch. Heading into the fall, he looks primed to become one of the area's premier playmakers.   Messiah Borders | ATH | 2027 | Lakeland Christian | @Messiah2borders   Borders continues to emerge as one of the more versatile athletes in the county. He brings natural playmaking ability with the ball in his hands and has developed into a reliable offensive weapon. His run-after-catch ability creates explosive opportunities, while his athleticism translates well on the defensive side. The upside remains extremely high.   Marcus Bankston | ATH | 2027 | Lakeland Christian | @MarcusBankston_   Bankston's offseason work is beginning to show. He's become more polished as a route runner, more confident attacking the football, and more consistent as an overall two-way weapon. Defensively, his movement skills and athleticism allow him to contribute in coverage. Expect him to play an important role for LCS this fall.   La'Derrian Adams | ATH | 2027 | Bartow | @LaDerrianAdams   Few players helped themselves more this spring than Adams. Physical, instinctive, and competitive, he consistently found ways to make plays. Expect him to be a major contributor in the secondary this season while continuing to build recruiting momentum.   Jase Diesel | ATH | 2027 | Lake Gibson | @Jase_Diesel09   Diesel embodies the type of player coaches love having in their program. His effort never changes, his competitiveness shows up every snap, and he consistently finds ways to impact games. Whether working offensively, contributing on special teams, or doing the dirty work, Diesel plays with an edge that elevates those around him.   Ja'Kobie Terry | ATH | 2027 | Bartow | @Kobie_863   Terry is one of the more versatile weapons in Polk County. Whether it's screens, jet sweeps, or creating in space, he finds ways to impact games. After scoring two touchdowns in the spring game, expect his role to expand even more this fall.   Raymond Xavier Diaz | RB/LB | 2027 | Lake Gibson | @Raymond2027Diaz   Diaz brings a physical edge to everything he does. At running back, he runs downhill, embraces contact, and consistently fights for extra yards. Defensively, his athleticism and toughness allow him to impact multiple spots on the field. With a strong offseason behind him and an opportunity for a larger role, Diaz is a prospect who could take a major step forward this fall.   Matwoin Bryant | ATH | 2028 | Lakeland | @MatwoinJr   Bryant is a physical athlete who continues to impress with his versatility. He runs hard, finishes through contact, and shows good vision with the ball in his hands. The tools are there for him to become another productive playmaker in Lakeland's pipeline.   Jeremiah West | ATH | 2030 | Fort Meade | @jeremiahwest22   West used the spring jamboree to put his name on the radar. The young athlete showed strong coverage skills, competed with confidence, and flashed playmaking ability throughout the day. For a 2030 prospect, the instincts and willingness to compete stood out. Plenty of upside here as he continues to develop within the Miners program.   Running Backs   Kamari Smith | RB | 2027 | Lake Wales | @D1kamari2   Smith continues to solidify his status as Polk County's top running back. His spring performance reminded everyone why. The burst, vision, patience, and ability to hit a home run at any moment separate him from most backs in the region. When he gets into the second level, few defenders have a chance. Recruitment momentum should only continue building.   AJ Truedell | RB | 2027 | Lakeland Christian | @clapz_aj   Truedell fits the modern running back mold perfectly. He can carry the workload between the tackles while also creating matchup problems as a receiver. His versatility allows offensive coordinators to move him around and create favorable situations. College coaches looking for a complete back should continue paying attention.   Xavion Mitchell | RB | 2027 | Kathleen | @xavionmitchell_   Mitchell is Polk County's most underrated offensive weapons. He combines vision, patience, acceleration, and receiving ability into one complete package. His ability to impact both the run and pass game makes him a true three-down back. The spring only reinforced how productive he can be moving forward. He runs with power, balance, and consistency while handling a heavy workload. What makes him valuable is his ability to keep the offense on schedule and wear defenses down throughout a game. Expect his role as a receiver to expand even more this season.   Jonas Metelus | RB | 2028 | Bartow | @jon92959   Metelus runs with attitude. He attacks downhill, embraces contact, and has enough speed to hit the edge when defenses overcommit inside. The rising sophomore had a strong spring and continues to flash the type of burst and toughness coaches want in a feature back.   Defense   [player_tooltip player_id='1657157' first='Malachi' last='Moore'] | LB | 2027 | Auburndale | @MalachiMoore222   Coming off a 100-plus tackle season, Moore continues to establish himself as one of Polk County's top linebackers. His instincts, downhill mentality, and ability to find the football consistently stand out. He's processing faster, playing with confidence, and continues developing into the leader of Auburndale's defense.   Charles Calhoun | LB/RB | 2027 | Auburndale | @4_wayyyzz   Calhoun's versatility remains one of his biggest strengths. Defensively, he's improved significantly in space and continues becoming more comfortable in coverage situations. Offensively, he runs with physicality and purpose. Regardless of where he's lined up, Calhoun plays with a toughness that coaches appreciate.   Vario McBride | ATH | Winter Haven | @hbk_dmarrr   McBride looked noticeably improved this spring. He's added size, continues moving well in space, and remains one of the more versatile athletes in the county. His ability to impact multiple phases of the game gives Winter Haven flexibility, and his stock continues trending upward heading into the season.   Antonio Glover | LB | 2027 | Fort Meade | @AntonioGlover_0   After finishing last season with 70 tackles and 18 tackles for loss, Glover has proven he's one of the more disruptive defenders in the region. He plays fast, attacks downhill, and consistently finds ways to create negative plays. His growth over the past year has been noticeable, and he'll be one of the leaders Fort Meade leans on defensively this season. His combination of length, power, athleticism, and timing forces offenses to account for him on every snap. Even when protections are designed specifically to slow him down, he finds ways to impact games.   [player_tooltip player_id='1655458' first='Drew' last='Sapp'] | EDGE | 2027 | Lakeland | @SappDrew2027   Few prospects have seen their stock rise faster over the past year than Sapp. At 6-3, 250 pounds, he combines size with explosiveness and a relentless motor. His ability to convert speed into power makes him difficult to handle off the edge, and his ceiling continues to rise. The physical tools are there, and continued development could make him a major contributor this fall. Jaxson Russell | OL | 2029 | Lakeland | @Jaxson_Russell7   Russell looks every bit the part of a future national recruit. Standing 6-6 and over 300 pounds, he already possesses the frame, movement skills, and physical traits college programs covet. His development is ahead of schedule, and his future remains extremely bright. Bertran Bates | OL/DL | 2028 | Santa Fe Catholic | @BertranB2028   Bates may be one of the most athletic young linemen in Polk County. His energy, technique, and willingness to compete stand out immediately. As he continues to physically develop and add strength, his upside becomes increasingly intriguing. The traits are there for him to emerge as a legitimate college prospect in the coming years.
