Few players in the 8-man or 6-man classifications ever get the opportunity to play college football.

2027 Fort Sumner/House defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='1802360' first='Aaron' last='Torres'] is one of those rare exceptions.

A three-sport standout, the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Torres was offered a scholarship by the New Mexico Lobos Friday when he was in Albuquerque for the small school (Class 3A-1A) state track and field championships.

Torres posted on social media that UNM extended the offer following a tour of the facilities at University Stadium and a ‘great conversation' with Lobos head coach Jason Eck.

Torres was previously offered by New Mexico Highlands in April during the Cowboys' spring game and Junior Day. He's planning to attend New Mexico State's Elite Prospect camp on June 13.

So far, it's been a fabulous year for Torres and the Fort Sumner/House athletics program. In the fall, the Foxes won the 8-man state championship, capping off a perfect 11-0 season with a 28-14 victory over Melrose in the title game. Torres earned First-Team All-State honors at defensive end and tight end.

In March, Fort Sumner/House went 26-5 and captured the Class 1A state basketball championship by beating district rival Logan in the title game at the Pit. Torres averaged a double-double in 31 games: 10.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

Finally, Torres is an elite track and field athlete. He's one of the top discus and shotput throwers in the state. Friday, he set a new state record in the discus with an impressive throw of 174 feet, 11 inches. He's won back-to-back-to-back individual state titles in that event.
