When scouting defensive players my eye always seems to follow the headhunters who are flying around sideline-to-sideline making big plays when their teams needs it most.

Having finely-tuned read-and-react skills and baller instincts is a prerequisite, but other than that these kind of defenders come in all sizes and are different in regard to speed, athleticism and experience; but they all have one thing in common.

These guys all have a nose for the ball...

In this report we are focusing on five rising-star defenders playing at all three levels of the defense who fly to the ball and are coming up on their sophomore and junior seasons

So without further adieu, let's take a closer look at what these guys are doing this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2079301' first='Sam' last='Moody'] , 6'2, 175, DB/WR, Blue Valley SW, '29, up first for the guys just wrapping up their freshman season is another baller from the Wolfpack's stacked class of 2029. A multi-sport athlete he can play either safety position using his length, closing burst and instincts reading the QB. Whether the ball is in the air or on the ground, he anticipates quickly and is a ball-buster on arrival. Once the season was over he has been training for football along with playing other sports and is having a standout track season on one of the top 4x400 relay teams in 5A. He has also been busy hitting camps and most recently performed well at the KC Varsity Camp at Ray-Pec with a number of his teammates. This guy was just getting warmed up last fall and is ready to take the next big step this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1876623' first='Reece' last='Lee'], 6'0, 160, CB/WR, Mill Valley, '29, next up for the ballers eyeing their sophomore season is a guy who got some good exposure to the varsity game last fall as a versatile d-back who can play anywhere in the secondary, but really shines as a tight-coverage corner. Last fall he piled up 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, five PBUs, picked off a pass, and recovered a fumble for a solid first year. He is a three-sport athlete who went right into basketball after the season ended and is currently have a strong track season. He recently had a standout performance at the KC Varsity Combine and has plans to hit camps at KU, K-State and Missouri displaying his speed and explosiveness (reference: 40" verticle and 10'5" broad). This guy has a high-ceiling game and is ready for a breakout season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2213600' first='King' last='Presley'], 5'10, 165, DB/ATH, Heights, '29, last but certainly not least for the freshman ballers is a young playmaker who caught my eye when I was scouting one of his talented teammates. He picked up valuable experience and acclimated to the varsity game quickly last fall as an athletic defensive back who can play either safety or as a smothering lock-down cornerback. Once the season came to a close he went right into off-season training lifting weights and doing speedwork. This spring he played 7v7 with the Wichita Wheat squad and has already been hitting the camp-combine circuit, most recently at the Revive Camp hosted by Wichita Trinity. This summer he intends to continue to grind and the work is paying off as he is 20 pounds heavier than last year while more explosive and faster. This guy is going to deliver this fall with a big year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2179187' first='Landon' last='Martinez'], 5'11, 165, DB/WR/ATH, Buhler, '28, up first for the guys focused on their junior season is a baller who has been on my radar for a while now and continues to amp up his high-octane game. He is coming off an excellent sophomore season when he caught 13 passes for 400 yards, averaging an eye-popping 30+ yards per catch and scored five TDs in nine games. He also added 300+ return yards, averaging 33+ yards a return. On defense he was even better, racking up 30+ tackles and intercepted four passes. He has been busy in the off-season playing 7v7 with the Kansas Colts and will be attending camps at KU, KSU and Emporia. He is currently rehabbing a wrist injury but will be 100% this summer and will continue training with Sharp Performance. This guy is going to burn it up this fall.

Noah Parr, 5'11, 185, LB/FB, Ark City, '28, wrapping up for the juniors-to-be is a baller flying under the radar somewhat playing for the Bulldogs but is getting ready to change that this fall. A two-way athlete who plays fullback on offense and is a physical linebacker who can play inside, outside or when storming the gates coming off the edge. He plays with physicality on both sides of the ball and when he collapses down on the ball carrier brings the hammer. Once the season ended he has been working with local trainer Rashad Daniels for speed and agility. This summer he will continue training with Coach Rashad, play tournament hoops and will hit camps at Hutch, Pitt State, Baker University and at KWU in Salina. His training is paying off as he has put on 20 pounds and has gotten faster. This guy is getting ready to impress people this fall.

In conclusion, get out and see these talented players this fall - you won't be disappointed! Also, if you know of any players not getting any/enough coverage that they deserve, please feel free to DM me via X so we can take care of that!
