Despite my strong distain for 7on7, its impact on the sport of football, the culture it is cultivating, and all that surrounds or comes with it, I covered my first 7on7 this weekend on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Prep Redzone produced the Garden State Gridiron tournament, a two-day championship event, hosted at Elizabeth Public School's William's Field and the city's downtown Todd Bowles Stadium. Day 1 of this event was a 10-hour nonstop, gauntlet of a marathon, with games every half-hour, on the half-hour. Nearly 35 U18 teams from as far as Western New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Long Island, as well as local teams alike, fiercely competed against everyone - their competition, the referees, event staff, coaches, spectators, security, and even internally amongst themselves - as nobody was safe.

With a lunch break, I did my best to cover each U18 team that was participating. With as much action as there was, I have decided to release my observations as game performance reports. Unfortunately, not all rosters were made available -neither by teams' managers nor Prep Redzone. As such, I have tried to report with as much fidelity as possible.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for the latest New Jersey high school football prospect news and not miss a beat!

Next Level Air Norris

Bill Seymour, jersey #16, was the first quarterback to take snaps for Next Level Air Norris. I thought that he did a great job of showcasing his ability to throw on the run. With many scrambles and designed rollouts, I left with the impression that he naturally had a weaker arm.

The team's other quarterback, Max Campbell (jersey #7), held the ball a bit longer than you would like. It seemed to me that he was unsure who exactly he was supposed to target and get the ball to.

Isiah Edwards, who wore jersey #10, knows how to get open. Edwards broke the top of his route rather violently, beating the safety across his face on a post. Although he was wide open, unfortunately Edwards was not seen.

A prospect who understood leverage and fits was in jersey #14, Yadiel Omar Santiago. Santiago funnels routes well, staking his claim in the part of the field that he wishes to defend, while understanding how to vice his run fit when closing in on ball carriers underneath.

In jersey #22, Stephen Soares is probably better equipped to plan zone coverage. The glimpse I caught of Soares was in man coverage, where he simply could not run with his matchup.

Prototyle Elite

Quarterback Jayvon Stevens, jersey #12, is a patient prospect. As Stevens took his drop, he waited for the deep post to develop, and when it did, he led his receiver beautifully for a walk-in score. Later on I also noted how Stevens did a great job of getting the ball out and letting his receivers work.

Jersey #3 belonged to Jason Deonrinesingh. Deonrinesingh showed a really good burst out of his release.

When running a curl, jersey #5 [player_tooltip player_id='2169209' first='Nayir' last='Jackson'], showed exactly sharply and suddenly he drops his hips. As a result, he left defenders on skates as he created space to turn upfield for serious YAC. Moreover, for as long-limbed as he is, he is not as much of a strider as you would like to see.

There was a famous, game-winning play that Santonio Holmes made in the super bowl probably close to 20 years ago already; and for jersey #4, [player_tooltip player_id='2169208' first='Ebube' last='Onukaogu'], he made a very similar play for a score. Later on I noted how Onukaogu was a leaper who high pointed the ball well. During that same catch, he spun away to protect the ball, showcasing a tremendous amount of body control in the process.

Mikey Howard, jersey #17, threw a total strike on a corner route at one point during this contest.

Jersey #15 was not listed on the roster. I noted how he broke backwards when defending a v-corner for a very nice pick.

Garden State Gridiron U18 Coverage

Garden State Gridiron: U18 Teams That Were The Most...
Garden State Gridiron Game Report: NJ Dream Chasers vs. NY Hustle
Garden State Gridiron Game Report: New York Hustle vs. Hype Fam
Garden State Gridiron Game Report: Hail Mary vs. Black Ops
Garden State Gridiron Report: NY Hustle v.
