Coach Charles Sprenkel Anxious To Keep Boone On Top

When veteran Orlando Boone head football coach Andy Johnson ended his 14th season with the Braves, it was unfortunate that his final contest would be a playoff loss to DeLand.   What Johnson accomplished his time at the school was develop, teach and get the very most out of the players he coached and assistants that he helped to elevate through the years.   The 10-2 record that this program posted in his final season was one that included a district championship and nine straight regular season wins.   This program has had only two head coaches in the past two plus decades, and winning has certainly been a trademark under Johnson and the legendary Phil Ziglar. Since 2004, this school has had just three losing seasons – while reaching the state title game in 2007 against powerhouse Miami Northwestern.   As spring started a few weeks ago, a new but familiar face took the reigns of this program with the same expectations his predecessors had approached each season.   Charles Sprenkel greeted some key returnees along with some new faces as he will keep this program near the top in the central Florida area. Sprenkel, who was an offensive lineman during his playing career at Delray Beach Atlantic High and UCF, has been coaching at Boone for the past four seasons, tending to the defensive line for the past two.
