Tennessee high school football is loaded with talented defensive players, especially in Division II-A. From athleticism and technique to ball skills and coverage, several standouts bring unique traits to the field each Friday night.

In this new Prep Redzone scouting series, I'm building the ultimate player at every position and classification by combining the best size, skills, traits and intangibles from top prospects across the state. There's just one rule: each player can be used only once, unless necessary.

Next in the series, I'm doing Division II-A defensive backs. By blending the best qualities of four different players, I've created the blueprint for the perfect coverage specialist in this classification heading into the 2026 Tennessee football season.

Photo: USJ DB [player_tooltip player_id='1687518' first='Bradley' last='Stamper'] at a Prep Redzone camp.

DB Frame: 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='1687518' first='Bradley' last='Stamper'] – University School of Jackson

There were a few to choose from in Division II-A, but the obvious choice is [player_tooltip player_id='1687518' first='Bradley' last='Stamper'] from USJ. He's one of the biggest defensive backs in the state. The rising senior stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 188 pounds in a long, lean frame that allows him to maintain his fluidity.

You don't see people built like this too often, especially ones who are also very mobile. It's very impressive, and having someone with this length and the ability to play multiple positions will come in handy for this theoretical player.

Photo: NCS ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1588776' first='Hudson' last='Smith'] during a game.

DB Athleticism: 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='1588776' first='Hudson' last='Smith'] – Nashville Christian School

[player_tooltip player_id='1588776' first='Hudson' last='Smith'] from Nashville Christian School is one of the most versatile and athletic players in Tennessee, regardless of classification. He was used as a Swiss army knife last season, playing defensive back, running back and receiver throughout the campaign.

He's very fast, gets downhill quickly, moves well laterally, shows good burst and is developing into a more explosive player in the secondary. I love his upside at every position, especially at safety.

Photo: Concord Christian ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1031934' first='Dasani' last='Moulden']. Photo from his Instagram.

DB Technique: 2029 [player_tooltip player_id='1031934' first='Dasani' last='Moulden'] – Concord Christian School

Most people know [player_tooltip player_id='1031934' first='Dasani' last='Moulden'] for his standout play at wide receiver, but he's also a very talented defensive back who contributed a lot in his freshman season. There are a few things you can point out about this young buck, but his technique is second to none.

He flips his hips well, possesses smooth footwork, has nice fluidity and the ability to read receivers and quarterbacks well. Moulden is efficient on his backpedals and has excellent transition speed. The 2029 prospect is best suited for wide receiver, but he has nice upside at defensive back.

DB Coverage Skills: 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2131341' first='Jacob' last='Snider'] – University School of Jackson

University School of Jackson has a very talented defense, including a loaded secondary for this classification. I already mentioned one guy, but someone else who stands out is 2027 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='2131341' first='Jacob' last='Snider']. He's a good all-around player, but I'm using his coverage skills.

He's productive in both zone and man coverage, along with the ability to disrupt the opposing team's passing game with interceptions and batted balls. Snider mirrors receivers well, and even if they beat him, his recovery and closing speed put him in a good position. The rising senior is a smart football player who reads offenses well and makes the most of his coverage opportunities.

Photo: [player_tooltip player_id='1687518' first='Bradley' last='Stamper'] on X

DB Ball Skills: 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='1687518' first='Bradley' last='Stamper'] – University School of Jackson

My rule states that I cannot use a player more than once unless I absolutely have to. Well, in this instance, I must. Stamper was picked for his frame, but he also has the best ball kills in Division II-A, which cannot go unnoticed. He is coming off a standout season, totaling eight pass deflections and a team-high in interceptions, further proving his abilities.

Stamper does a good job of tracking passes, high-pointing them and he can leverage himself into the best position to make plays on balls. He has strong reaction skills and excellent football IQ that help him excel in this area. The rising senior is a wide receiver on the other side of the ball, a role that has helped him develop in this area.

Tennessee high school football is loaded with talented defensive players, especially in Division II-A. From athleticism and technique to ball skills and coverage, several standouts bring unique traits to the field each Friday night.
