2027 Watchlist-To-Ranked Defensive Linemen

It's Week 2 of our 2027 <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/05/updated-2027-north-carolina-rankings/">Rankings Update</a> at Prep Redzone. Last week, we dropped a massive update to our 2027 class, with over 190 new players and huge movement within the rankings. One of my favorite lists to look at each update is the list of players who moved from the watchlist to the rankings. We had nearly 40 players make this move during this update, and here are the defensive linemen and edge rushers who fit the description.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Watchlist-to-Ranked Defensive Linemen</h2>    Hefner had a strong junior season in his first year as a varsity starter, and that first put him on our radar. Then we saw him at our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/05/prz-exposure-camp-dl-analysis/">Prep Redzone Exposure Camp</a> and came away impressed with both his ability and his attitude. With another offseason in the weight room, he should be able to get a bit bigger and impact the game on the interior with his strength.     George's name has come up a couple of times in conversations with both college and high school coaches. Unprompted, a couple of people have told me they think he's flying way under the radar and is a mature player who could thrive in several different settings. He isn't simply a raw athlete who wins by being bigger and faster than everyone; there's also some nuance to his game.     Hernandez-Chicas is a ferocious, undersized interior defensive lineman who flashed in limited opportunities last season. His get-off is excellent, and he'll frequently shoot gaps to blow up running plays. His upside will likely be determined by his potential versatility, since it's hard to think he can stay inside in the long-term. Still, there's a lot to like about his profile.     A late-bloomer in terms of physical growth, Newman had a quietly productive junior season, and there's plenty of untapped pass-rushing potential in his profile. Newman has a great get-off and plays the run well. Several of his tackles for loss last season were chasedown tackles from the back side, showing his speed and agility. If he can be a bit more productive as a pass-rusher, he should get plenty of college interest.     A high-work-rate edge rusher with length and speed, Bloomfield is just starting to tap into his impressive potential. With a bit more refinement and consistency, he'll break out with a huge senior year. He has a ton of untapped ability, and I think 2026 could be a huge year for him.     Melton plays multiple positions for 3A Greene Central, but he's most comfortable moving around on the defensive line. He's lightning quick for a bigger guy, and can shoot gaps and collapse pockets as a 3-technique. He broke out last fall with 5.5 sacks in seven games, and he's already had some strong camp performances. He has the look of a guy who could have a fantastic senior year to gain some recruiting momentum.     Wigley is a high-upside, multi-sport athlete for Foard. He started to break out as a junior before missing the back half of the season, with a tackle for loss in all seven games he played. He's long, explosive, and has the bend to get around the edge and impact the quarterback.    There's plenty to come from Matt Morrow, Joshua Graham, and me on the 2027 rankings over the next week.
