Best Teams of the Tournament: Focus Elite 14u

Another deep that went undefeated Saturday and made a deep push Sunday as well, Focus Elite 14u stunned some teams this past weekend at the PA Classic. They won their first 5 straight and narrowly lost by one point in the semifinals against Swag 14u. This team was consistent between both days, moving the ball with ease down the field and forcing turnovers when it mattered most. Here are the players from Focus Elite that caught my attention this weekend. A dynamic two-way playmaker at safety and receiver, Andrew Broome showed excellent anticipation by jumping routes and consistently making highlight plays throughout the weekend. A bigger target on offense, he got open consistently by finding the soft spot in the coverage, providing a reliable presence in the passing game. Built tough with a physical frame, it'll be interesting to see how his skills translate when Andrew puts the pads on. I have a feeling he will be hard to stop. A quarterback who immediately stood out Saturday morning, Declan McConnell impressed enough to make me ask for his name from a coach after repeatedly excelling on deep, downfield throws. He throws a smooth, tight spiraled, deep ball and shows the ability to pick apart defenses when given time. He showcased an impressive ability to read and react to the defense when he split Cover 2 down the middle and led his receiver right into the end zone. A reliable and smart decision-maker, Declan consistently put his team in position to succeed. A big, rangy receiver and safety, Jaelik Brooks is a natural mover in the secondary who translates that athleticism well to offense. He proved to be a favorite target with consistent hands, routinely catching the ball away from his body and making plays look easy. He capped off a game on Saturday with a pair of touchdowns, one smooth deep touchdown and another easy score in the back of the end zone. Jaelik is an electric target and that Declan would consistently rely on to move the sticks. A bigger-framed corner who impressed with his coverage ability, Martavis Holt didn't allow a single completion his way while I was in attendance. He was just very sticky in man coverage, and also showed great awareness of players entering and leaving his zone. As a receiver, Martavis showed smooth movement and agility creating separation out of his breaks. This skill was on full display when he was able tot break loose and make it an easy deep touchdown with no defender in sight. A receiver who consistently showed quickness in space and strong downfield speed, Jayden Greenfield flashed the ability to separate and stress defenses vertically. He didn't get a ton of targets when I was at Focus Elite's game, but he made the most of his opportunities and left you wanting to see more looks come his way.
