The Great Plains Gauntlet 7-on-7 event once again provided a strong early look at some of the region's emerging quarterback talent, particularly at the freshman level. While several of these signal-callers may be undersized for the moment, their skill sets, instincts, and playmaking ability suggest plenty of upside as they continue to develop physically. Here are four quarterbacks who stood out with their performance and production.

Devyn Rhodes | 6-0, 185 | Freshman | South Dakota

Rhodes was a flat-out playmaker throughout the event and one of the most productive quarterbacks in attendance. He consistently lit up the scoreboard, showcasing a quick, clean release and the ability to distribute the football across the field. Whether working short concepts or pushing the ball vertically, Rhodes demonstrated confidence and command, keeping defenses off balance. His natural feel for the position and ability to create touchdowns make him a name to watch moving forward.

Zach Harness | 6-0, 160 | Freshman | Missouri

Harness impressed with his timing and decision-making, particularly in the intermediate passing game. He did an excellent job of getting the ball out quickly and reading route development, showing comfort operating within structure. He was especially effective on crossing patterns, consistently hitting receivers in stride and allowing for run-after-catch opportunities. Harness's rhythm and efficiency stood out, pointing to a quarterback who understands how to manage the game and move the chains.

Devin Murcek | 5-8, 140 | Freshman | Nebraska

One of the smaller quarterbacks at the event, Murcek proved that size isn't everything especially this early in the development curve. Despite his current frame, he may have been one of the most impressive overall performers. Murcek showed the ability to make all the necessary throws, operating efficiently in the short passing game while also demonstrating touch and accuracy at the intermediate and deep levels. His decision-making, poise, and consistency stood out, and with physical growth still ahead, his long-term upside is intriguing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1970032' first='Jackson' last='Gangwish'] | 6-1, 190 | Freshman | Nebraska

Gangwish brought a strong combination of size, poise, and downfield passing ability. He consistently looked comfortable in the pocket and delivered one of the better deep balls at the event. Gangwish connected on multiple long touchdown passes, showing both arm strength and the ability to stretch the field vertically. His presence and confidence stood out, and he projects well as a quarterback who can continue to develop into a true field general.

Final Takeaway

While all four quarterbacks are still early in their high school careers, their performances at the Great Plains Gauntlet highlighted a promising group of young passers across the Midwest. Though some may be undersized at present, their instincts, accuracy, and playmaking ability suggest that their best football is well ahead of them. As they continue to grow and refine their games, this group has the potential to make significant noise in the coming years.
