After a brief break in the action, the March coverage on position groups and what these ballers are doing in the off-season to get ready for fall continues.

Today we are taking a closer look at some of the baller defenders bringing their seek-and-destroy game out of the secondary and from the linebacking positions.

Below are five guys who can collapse down in the blink of an eye and decaptitate ball carriers before they get to the line of scrimmage, or sink in zone or man-up and play suffocating pass defense.

Kicking off the report are three athletic, explosive d-backs who will probably all end up at the D1-D2 level a year from now and then a pair of versatile linebackers who can turn and burn on the perimeter as an edge rusher or hammer the run game between the tackles.

So without further adieu, let's take a closer look at what these guys have been up to and what their plans are for the rest of the off-season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1362958' first='Levi' last='McLaughlin'] , 6'3, 200, DB/WR, Rose Hill, '27, (PICTURED ABOVE) first up for the baller defenders is a gifted d-back who I have been impressed with since he was a freshman and have enjoyed watching him evolve over the past few seasons into a D1-level talent. This spring he has been playing lights-out against top competition for the Kansas Colts in 7v7 and has shown off his blistering speed at events, timed at 22+ mph numerous times with a sub-4.5 laser. With his next-level length and athleticism he can play as a lockdown corner or a ballhawk safety who can high-point the interception one play and use his physicality and closing speed to make jarring run-stop tackles on the perimeter the next. With offers starting to roll in, he has been busy putting the finish touches on his off-season work with ace trainer, Coach Tabor and PIA. He has already been busy in camp season, having attended Fort Hays, Lindenwood and Kearney, and is getting ready to get on the road to Illinois State, SMU, and KU mega camps among others. Get your popcorn handy, this guy is going to put on a show this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='823254' first='Terrence' last='Bryant'] – 6'1”, 185, DB/LB/RB, Aquinas, '27, next up is another standout hybrid defensive back coming off a strong junior season personally, earning all-state honors with 55 tackles, six TFL, a pair of sacks, a pick and a forced fumble. However, it was a season when the Saints did not win a state title for the first time in a while, losing twice by one point to powerhouse Rockhurst and multi-title winner, Mill Valley to finish 8-2. To help flip the script this year he has been lifting and doing speed/cardio work and running sprints/relays in track. He also has a busy camp schedule ahead, going to South Dakota, Augustana, Nebraska Kearney, Missouri Western and the KC Varsity combine in May. An athletic, multi-positional baller, he has good lateral quickness and a nose for the ball whether coming off the edge or sinking back in the secondary to disrupt the pass game. This guy is big-time ready to go get a state title back.

[player_tooltip player_id='1515789' first='Ethan' last='Curry'] , 5'10, 180, RB/ATH, Lawrence, '27, up next is an athletic playmaker who has been making a name for himself as a guy who can do a little bit of everything in all three phases of the game. He is coming off a solid junior campaign, and in seven games on defense piled up 60+ tackles, a pair of tackles for loss, a half-dozen PBU's and a pick. On the other side of the ball he ran for 226 yards on 45 carries, caught 28 passes for 345 yards and on special teams returned 12 kicks and punts for 200+ yards. In the secondary he uses his 39" vertical and 4.5 speed to play as a smothering corner who can hit receivers in the jaw and then flip hips and stay in their hip pocket throughout the route or play as a centerfielder safety reading and reacting to the ball. Right now he is busy in track season and is working out with @TopSpeedLLC twice a week to get faster and more explosive and on the weekends works on RB and DB positional training. This guy has the skill sets to be dangerous and is going to bring the fireworks this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1275252' first='Cade' last='Danielson'], 6'2, 220, LB/Edge, Washburn Rural, '27, next up is the third baller from Washburn Rural that I have featured in the past few weeks after seeing him working out with his dad @MattDanielson41, and teammates, stud RB @BaumJadyn46674, and trench warrior, @scooter_steve99. As a ball-buster of an outside linebacker or edge rusher, he blows past tackles with great body lean and physicality to get in the backfield and bring the hammer. With excellent instincts, quick lateral movement and the ability to work through traffic he pummels the run game on his side. This off-season he has been fine-tuning his stab-lift-pin mechanics as well as the nuances of trench warfare from rising-star trainer, @coachjeddy_DL and is also doing speedwork, agilities and cardio in the team program. His work is paying off as he has grown an inch and put on 30 pounds while getting faster. Once fall rolls around, it is beast-mode time for this guy.

Blake Brokob, 6'1, 215, LB, Girard, '27, and last but certainly not least we have another defensive baller who has been flying under the radar somewhat playing in Southeastern Kansas, but after a strong junior season, he is getting ready to blow that narrative out of the water. After helping the Trojans to a 6-4 record, the 2X Team Captain and standout linebacker is helping provide leadership for a team getting excited about making a run for the league title this fall. Once the season concluded last year he immediately started training and hitting the grind for the all-important senior season and has not let up since. This off-season his training is focused on explosiveness, speedwork and mastering the intricacies of his craft. His camp schedule is still under development, with a number in mind to attend and is also starting to get some D2 and D1 attention from schools in the three-state area. This guy is getting ready to surprise some people in 2026 with his versatile, physical game.
