The Houston area has once again produced an impressive stable of defensive ends and edge prospects in the 2027 class, blending power, length, and relentless motor. From high-impact pass rushers to run-stopping disruptors, these athletes have stood out on film and in big-moment games. The list below will highlight some of the standout players from last season and players who will names to watch moving forward.

Callan Kirk | Stratford

Kirk is one of the more impressive players at the position in the class. He is extremely active in both run and pass defense. He shows very active hands, defeating blocks and throwing opposing players off of him. Kirk has great strength, locking out his arms and pressing blockers away from his body. He has the complete skillset needed to succeed at the position and shows the effort by chasing plays from the backside and running the arc to get to the quarterback. Kirk's game is entertaining to watch and he leaves it on the field. His ability to generate pressure and stop the run by setting the edge is top notch. For his junior season he tallied double-sacks and made a living making plays in the backfield.

Ikenna Nwawueze | Alief Taylor

Nwawueze shows an explosive get-off on situational downs, bending the corner and using his speed to generate pressure off the edge. He covers much ground with his speed and lateral quickness, stopping the outside run for most opponents. Nwawueze has shown the ability to beat blockers with power as well, knocking them off-balance with a strong punch and bull rush. When stalemated, Nwawueze remains active, hunting for the ball and finding his way to make plays in the backfield. Nwawueze shows much promise in his game and will cause opposing teams problems with his speed and quickness.

Xavious Goodall | Lamar

Goodall is a game-wrecker who plays with great physicality and intensity. He is quick off the ball and has the agility to around the corner with ease. He plays with a tremendous feel for the game and knows when to use pass-rushing moves. Goodall excels at the push and pull and rip through, always keeping opposing linemen off-balance. He is a very strong run defender taking on blocks and disengaging to make plays. Goodall impressed with his awareness and all-around play, and will be a name to follow during this off-season.

Lucas Richard | The Woodlands College Park

The tape does not do Richard justice, he is a true baller on the d-line. He can play either inside or outside and dominate his matchup. Richard can control his gaps and reset the line of scrimmage with his initial punch. He has a long reach to fight and defeat blocks and can keep containment with his speed. Richard has an explosive first step and can drive right through an oline with his power. He shows relentless tenacity and can change a games momentum with his motor. He is an outstanding player who will be a top name at the position.

[player_tooltip player_id='1757557' first='James' last='Harris Jr']. | Cy Falls

Harris is a bad man coming off the edge. His size and combination of power and finesse led to many negative plays for opponents. Harris not only is able to run through blockers but has the agility to side step and go right by them. His inside swim and stunts looked unstoppable at times and caught opposing linemen off guard. He is a player who dominates his matchup and even when doubled can make plays in the backfield. Harris is one of those players who can win his team a game with his effort alone on the defensive side of the ball. A disruptor who can change the outcome with one play. A straight DAWG who will be a trending name this off-season.
