Ravenwood Defeats Green Hill (Game Recap/Top Performers)

After week three of high school football had a number of contests in the Middle Tennessee area cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather, I stopped by Brentwood to catch Ravenwood take on Green Hill in a Saturday night game. The Raptors went on to defeat Green Hill 43-14 and improve to 3-0 on the season. After catching the contest, here's my list of top performers as well as my full game recap.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Performers</h2>    In the first place spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='402540' first='Femi' last='Babalola'], a quarterback at Ravenwood High School. Babalola was difficult for the defense to read as he could run the ball into the endzone himself and complete the deep pass. Babalola's size, speed and ability to quickly get the ball in the air made him the Hawks worst nightmare throughout the first half of play.   <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/17916391/66d7bf4be733f5ce53873d08">Tape:</a>     I was additionally impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='964976' first='Kannon' last='Burroughs'], a quarterback at Green Hill High School. Burroughs made a difference for the Hawks offensively in the second half, tossing an impressive touchdown pass to put Green Hill on the scoreboard. What stands out about Burroughs is his excellent size and ability to deceive the defense with his quick passing.   <a href="http://www.hudl.com/video/3/14145367/67254641293ffa7899fde58e">Tape:</a>     Claiming the number three spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='402559' first='Maverick' last='Chance'], a quarterback at Ravenwood High School. Chance was extremely impactful at the helm of the Raptors' offense, proving his ability to run the ball into enemy territory himself. Chance also caught my attention with his ability to scan the backfield and toss the deep pass.   <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/17920034/673d46e10a64fff5525c9e7f">Tape:</a>     Another skilled prospect was Crews Kelley, a wide receiver at Ravenwood High School. Kelley was unstoppable down the stretch, showcasing his excellent breakaway speed and strong catching ability. Kelley was all over the place in the first half, getting in prime position for two touchdown passes. Kelley's size and wingspan really made a difference as he proved he could elevate off the ground to haul in the touchdown despite heavy defensive pressure.   <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/14985615/68b860749050bb1fa16b9ed2">Tape:</a>     Coming in at number five on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1841394' first='Zachery' last='Cartwright'], a running back at Green Hill High School. Cartwright played an important role for the Hawks' offense in the second half, punching in the touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Cartwright impressed me with his size, speed and ability to muscle his way past multiple defenders.   <a href="http://www.hudl.com/video/3/16251284/6595d7acda5aff0a04e900f8">Tape:</a>     Also making his presence known was [player_tooltip player_id='1287024' first='Cy' last='Longley'], a wide receiver at Ravenwood High School. Longley was highly explosive for the Raptors offense, hauling in two touchdown passes on the night. What impressed me the most about Longley was his breakaway speed, ability to read the deep pass like a book and his outstanding catching ability. Longley showcased his ability to be in the right place at the right time.   <a href="http://www.hudl.com/v/2SFfS7">Tape:</a>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Game Recap</h2>   Ravenwood was unstoppable in the first half as the Raptors would strike on their first drive of the contest. [player_tooltip player_id='402559' first='Maverick' last='Chance'] would connect with [player_tooltip player_id='1287024' first='Cy' last='Longley'] for the first touchdown of the evening. The Raptors held an early 7-0 lead over the Hawks with 7:22 remaining in the first quarter. Ravenwood would be back on the scoreboard at the 10 minute mark of the first quarter as [player_tooltip player_id='402540' first='Femi' last='Babalola'] juked out the entire defense and ran it all the way to the house for the score. Ravenwood led Green Hill 17-0. The Raptors would continue to dominate in the second quarter as a deep pass from Babalola found it's way to Crews Kelley in the endzone to extend Ravenwood's lead to 24-0 with 8:43 left before the half. Ravenwood was back on the scoreboard before long as Longley hauled in his second touchdown of the night to give the Raptors a 33-0 lead over Green Hill. The Raptors wouldn't stop there as Kelley would outrun the defense and get wide open for the touchdown pass. Ravenwood was up 40-0 on Green Hill at the half. The Hawks made some solid adjustments during halftime as Green Hill's offense would find the endzone on their first drive of the second half. [player_tooltip player_id='964976' first='Kannon' last='Burroughs'] would connect with Callaway Cates for the touchdown. The Hawks would also score in the fourth quarter as a handoff to [player_tooltip player_id='1841394' first='Zachery' last='Cartwright'] resulted in another Green Hill score. Ravenwood went on to win the game 43-14 and improve to 3-0 on the season.
