My second game of Week 3 was heading out to Buell Stadium to watch the Millard North Mustangs host the Papillion-La Vista South Titans. The Titans were able to break the scoring spree open with a TD run by senior Jones, and from there they never looked back as they scored 51 unanswered points. The Mustangs were able to get on the board late in the fourth quarter on a run by senior Isaiah Traylor. Papillion-La Vista South won the game 51-7.

On a night where offensive production was hard to come by, senior [player_tooltip player_id='533092' first='Zion' last='Rush'] was able to be the Mustangs' most consistent chain mover. Zion ended the night with five receptions for 116 receiving yards and 16 rushing yards. Rush has made the transition from QB to WR look seamless as he's stepped right in and shown that he can be a reliable target at all levels of the field. For it being only a few games, I was impressed with how well Zion could run his routes and could attack the leverage of the opposing defenders. He is also aggressive at the catch point, showing he's willing to elevate to snag the ball at the highest point and can hold onto it as he battles contact. Overall, Zion is a versatile, dynamic athlete who will likely find a role on a college roster in one position or another!

Mustangs' safety Araf Evans Jr was a player I had circled going into the game, and was not disappointed with his performance. Araf paced the defense with nine total tackles and made an impact deeper than the stats. Araf is a well-rounded safety who plays the position like a linebacker with his effectiveness as a run defender. Even from the safety position, he's able to explode downhill and blow up the RB when he meets them in the hole. Araf has a high football IQ, reading and processing the game at a high level with quick instincts and a first step that enables him to close on the ball very well. He's physical when he meets the opposing back and shows little give at the point of contact, knocking back his opponent to stop forward momentum. Araf is also very rangy in pass coverage, showing he can get depth and flow from sideline to sideline with ease. Good hands at the catch point help bat away passes. A top 25 prospect in the '26 class that is still available... tap in coaches!

As I mentioned, the offense as a unit struggled to get going for most of the night, but there were still several bright spots, including the newest Husker commit, junior [player_tooltip player_id='1085067' first='Matt' last='Erickson']. This was my first good look at Matt in person, and I was very impressed with his performance as he got after it in the run game and held up well in pass protection. He does a great job using his lengthy reach to make first contact and has powerful hands that can overwhelm opponents when clamped up by him. Strong base with solid bend to stay in his stance while engaged. Erickson also moves very well with his ability to climb up to the second level or lead block 10-20 yards downfield. Plenty of season left for the Mustangs to turn it around and make a play for the postseason… expect Matt to spearhead that charge up front.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1192414' first='Drew' last='Nelson'] is a player who caught my attention during warmups and continued to flash throughout the game. Standing at 6'2” and 210 pounds, Drew passed the eye test immediately with the measurables that coaches at the next level will look for, with room to continue filling out his lengthy frame. As a linebacker, Drew showed that he can fire downhill and play off-ball when needed in coverage. Drew finished the game with three tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, showing his playmaking abilities. Definitely going to continue monitoring Drew in the following months!
