SUMMERVILLE | Friday night was set to be a heavyweight showdown between two of the better teams in the state of South Carolina. Berkeley and Summerville both have stars all over the field.

It instead turned into a battle of backup quarterbacks with Summerville's [player_tooltip player_id='1734478' first='Cooper' last='Kafina'] proving to be a step ahead. He and star athlete [player_tooltip player_id='378969' first='Jaiden' last='Kelly-Murray'] were able to make sure Summerville controlled the game and cruise to a 36-20 win.

There's a reason that Kelly-Murray (pictured) is our No. 1 ranked player in 2027 class and he put that on display. He hauled in seven catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran two snaps in the wildcat formation and totaled 30 rushing yards in doing so. He knew what a win would mean and wanted to do everything in his ability to make that happen.

"We didn't want to lose two in a row," he said. "Coming out tonight and getting a win was important. It felt good to be a part of that and it's good to be back on the right side of things after a bad one last week."

Kelly-Murray was one of three Summerville players to score a touchdown, with the other two being running back [player_tooltip player_id='1215391' first='Jayven' last='Williams'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1061146' first='Teru' last='Davis'] at receiver. Williams tallied 113 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Davis made his lone touch of the game count as it went for a 44-yard score.

For Berkeley, the loss of star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1036733' first='Henry' last='Rivers'] last week was a massive one. It was forced to turn to senior [player_tooltip player_id='1766341' first='Keller' last='Wofford'] - the backup to Rivers the past two seasons. Wofford was able to finish with 165 passing yards to go along with two touchdowns.

One of those was a 95-yard strike to [player_tooltip player_id='1766151' first='Jonathan' last='Mitchell'] to get Berkeley on the board after trailing 27-0. The second came to [player_tooltip player_id='1766285' first='Jordan' last='Livingston'] on a busted coverage from the Summerville defense.

Other Summerville Standouts

Jaelyn Pounds WR, 2027 - Pounds was only targeted twice and he made both chances count. He hauled in two catches for 41 yards and showcased his ability to make tacklers miss in the open field.

[player_tooltip player_id='1822309' first='Josiah' last='Taylor'] CB, 2026 - Taylor did not allow a single catch on his side of the field for entirety of the game. He was also responsible for collecting one of the two interceptions hauled in by the Summerville defense against Wofford.

[player_tooltip player_id='1432172' first='Cameron' last='Grayson'] RB, 2026 - Grayson spent most of his night in the backfield, collecting 12 yards on four carries. He made an impact on defense too, though, with an interception late in the second half that sealed the game.

Nate Beaver K, 2027 - It's not often we get to show love to the kickers, so we'll always jump at the chance too. Beaver boomed a 45-yard field goal through the uprights early in the third quarter, showcasing a both powerful and accurate leg in the process.

Other Berkeley Standouts

LJ Washington RB, 2027 - Washington was a workhorse in the backfield for Berkeley, tallying 20 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown. He was always fighting for the extra yards, and it took a slew of defenders to bring him down nearly every time he touched the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1766590' first='K'Den' last='Foxworth'] RB, 2026 - Foxworth was Washington's counterpart in the backfield and after a slow start, he got going to put up solid numbers. After collecting just eight yards on his first four carries, he finished the game with 11 carries for 50 yards. Take away those first four runs and he average over seven yards per carry.

[player_tooltip player_id='1766209' first='Malik' last='Callen'] WR, 2027 - Callen was the most targeted receiver on the evening, and he hauled in three catches for 29 yards. If not for a dropped pass, he would've been looking at well over 50 yards in the receiving department.

[player_tooltip player_id='1766662' first='Avery' last='Everette'] LB, 2027 - Summerville did not make many mistakes but when it did, the Berkeley defense often capitalized. That included Everette who recovered the fumble that setup the 95-yard touchdown to get the Stags on the board. Along with the fumble recovery, he was in on several tackles throughout the night.
