<!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Last Season: 5-6</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After starting out 1-4, Monsignor Farrell turned it around last season, winning four straight games and earning the 4 seed in the AAA playoffs. The Lions fell to Chaminade 14-7 in the NYCHSFL AAA quarterfinals. They return a bunch of talent from last year's team, and you can learn about these players below.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Prospect</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1278754"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6890bd0025875"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">How many freshman wide receivers have 30+ catches and 500+ receiving yards in the AAA division? The answer is very few, but that's what [player_tooltip player_id='1278754' first='Braxton' last='Moye'] accomplished. The highly touted receiver lived up to and exceeded expectations and was a dominant playmaker for the Lions as a freshman. He's physically gifted, a great route runner, and has excellent hands.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">X Factors</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["805722"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6890bd00258f6"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Gumb put together an excellent junior campaign. He is a tremendous athlete who impacted both sides of the ball at a high level. On defense, he was always around the football. He made some highlight-reel hits and was an overall tackling machine for the Lions. He also had a great year at running back. With Nafis Muhammad graduating, I could see Gumb taking the next step and having a huge year on offense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["277164"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6890bd0025955"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Pasqualone is a player who could have a breakout season for the Lions this year. He has game-changing speed; when he had the ball in space last season, he was dangerous. For his senior season, he'll have more opportunities to shine, and his big-play ability will be on full display. He's a threat as a receiver or a running back, but Pasqualone also showed great tape on defense, helping Farrell on that side of the ball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1506670"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6890bd00259b3"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Ustun is one of the most dynamic players you'll see in the AAA division this season. He was an excellent receiver and defensive back for the Lions last season. His ball skills are incredible—Ustun's ability to go up and get it is so impressive. He won plenty of 50/50 balls and made impressive catches in traffic. His coverage and tackling skills were also phenomenal, as he was consistently making big plays on defense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1397417"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6890bd0025a0d"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Another fantastic senior for Monsignor Farrell. Savino is looking to build off of a great junior campaign. He has an excellent motor off the defensive line and was causing havoc against some of the top teams in the state. Savino started at defensive end last season; his footwork and strength always gave the opposition trouble as he successfully got into the backfield and made plays.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["939613"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6890bd0025a68"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">One of the top linemen in the city, Ragione put himself on the map last season. As a sophomore, and at 6'2”, 330 pounds, it was impressive how well Ragione moved and excelled up front. His strength and athleticism were excellent as a two-way starter for the Lions. He was a great run-stopper on defense and collected numerous pancake blocks while blocking on offense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Breakout Player</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1283757"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6890bd0025ac1"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Last year, Moye had a small sample size but looked great at the varsity level as a freshman QB. Moye has an excellent arm, but his IQ and instincts are amazing. He has put together an excellent offseason—he helped Monsignor Farrell win the "NY Jets 11-ON" tournament in July. Now, with the keys to the offense, Moye could have a huge sophomore year alongside some great weapons.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Key Losses (All League Recipients) </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>QB- Ryan Walsh&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>RB- Nafis Muhammad&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>LB- Gerard Sheehan&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>DB- Rocco Del Giorno&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>LB- Joseph Giovanelli</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Names To Know</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:table --> <figure class="wp-block-table"><table class="has-fixed-layout"><tbody><tr><td>Position </td><td>Player</td><td>Class</td><td>Notes</td></tr><tr><td>K</td><td>[player_tooltip player_id='1742507' first='Jake' last='Burrowes']</td><td>2026</td><td>excellent kicker</td></tr><tr><td>LB</td><td>[player_tooltip player_id='1161278' first='Andrew' last='Doyle']</td><td>2026</td><td>solid LB, back from injury</td></tr><tr><td>DL</td><td>[player_tooltip player_id='805718' first='CJ' last='Palazzola']</td><td>2026</td><td>varsity as a sophomore, back from injury</td></tr><tr><td>WR</td><td>[player_tooltip player_id='806630' first='Matt' last='Tristano']</td><td>2026</td><td>senior wr back from injury can have a great year</td></tr><tr><td>WR</td><td>Ryan Tait</td><td>2026</td><td>great size, talented prospect</td></tr><tr><td>LB</td><td>Dan Mastroguilio</td><td>2026</td><td>senior LB, hard-nosed throwback LB&nbsp;</td></tr><tr><td>OL/DL</td><td>[player_tooltip player_id='939622' first='Alpha' last='Ba']</td><td>2027</td><td>excellent freshman season, now healthy for his junior year</td></tr><tr><td>ATH</td><td>[player_tooltip player_id='1760700' first='Anthony' last='Vento']</td><td>2027</td><td>was a standout on JV, great athlete&nbsp;<br></td></tr></tbody></table></figure> <!-- /wp:table --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2025 Outlook</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Monsignor Farrell has one of the most challenging schedules in New York. They start off with PSAL power South Shore, followed by a battle with CBA-Albany, who were state runner-ups and bring back a loaded team. They also face Delbarton (NJ), along with the AAA powers St. Anthony's, Cardinal Hayes, and Iona Prep. The Lions also take on neighborhood rivals St. Joseph by the Sea and St. Peter's this season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
