The 2025 high school football season is less than two weeks away — during which time Prep Redzone Louisiana is in the process of releasing rankings updates for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes and the first watch list for the incoming 2029 class.

A new 100-man list for the 2028 cycle hits the site this week. And, along with the update, we will count down the top 30 prospects in greater detail, including some familiar faces but also a few new additions.

Here's a look at Nos. 30-21.

No. 30 — [player_tooltip player_id='1851012' first='Javante' last='Broussard'] — 6-1, 170 WR — Northside

The budding Northside standout is a fitting prospect to kick off the 2028 rankings countdown as a member of the group of players who look increasingly likely to headline the class: tall, long and athletic receivers who make highlight-reel plays routine with their catch radius, leap and strong hands. We haven't seen as much yet for Broussard as some of his peers in that category a bit higher on the list, but he showed some promising flashes throughout this offseason of 7-on-7 action.

No. 29 — [player_tooltip player_id='1393848' first='Gregory' last='Williams Jr']. — 5-9, 160 RB/ATH — Catholic (Baton Rouge)

The Bears' backfield is loaded with upperclassman talent, but the sophomore looks poised to force his way into reps this fall with his performance. Williams hit the Prep Redzone Louisiana radar this past winter with his quickness and versatility with the ball skills and athletic traits to be effective either out of the backfield or out of the slot. And since a breakout spring scrimmage performance in which he torched his way to two long scoring runs, the expectation is that he'll have some opportunities to showcase his abilities on Friday nights this fall.

No. 28 — [player_tooltip player_id='1372216' first='Shadon' last='Lee'] — 6-0, 155 DB — Westgate

Lee was one of several members of the Tigers' talented 2028 group featured on Prep Redzone Louisiana's initial watch list for the class entering freshman year, but now makes his first appearance on the actual rankings after slotting just outside the top 50 this winter. The versatile defensive back is a long, quick athlete now listed 3-4 inches taller and 15 pounds stronger than previous measurements and fresh off a solid performance in Westgate's scrimmage with an interception and a slew of breakups.

No. 27 — [player_tooltip player_id='1372199' first='Curtis' last='McAllister'] — 6-3, 185 WR — Metairie Park Country Day

Another rising prospect who has appeared to show notable physical development, the son of New Orleans Saints great Deuce McAllister is now listed about 20 pounds stronger when he first hit the radar as a long, lean receiver with impressive ball skills to make a few early highlight-reel catches in 7-on-7 settings. The younger McAllister, a two-sport standout for the Cajuns, appears to be increasingly coming into his own as a more well-rounded weapon at the position and making those eye-catching plays more and more of a habit.

No. 26 — [player_tooltip player_id='1845261' first='Jayden' last='Taylor'] — 6-4, 230 OL — St. Augustine

Offensive linemen are also becoming an early theme of Louisiana's 2028 class with several in the top 50 of the new Prep Redzone Louisiana rankings update. Taylor doesn't have the bulk of several of his counterparts in that position group, but shows a long frame and good mobility at the position that have made him effective this fall in early left-tackle reps for the Purple Knights and promising as a prospect long-term.

No. 25 — [player_tooltip player_id='1372176' first='Trey' last='McDaniel'] — 6-1, 165 DB — Calvary Baptist

The Cavaliers' cornerback has quickly emerging as one of the top prospects on roster for the perennial title-contending program in Shreveport with his long frame, good instincts and ball skills, deceptive speed and good physicality for a young defensive back. McDaniel reads and reacts quickly and shuts passing windows in a hurry and he isn't show as a tackler or using his body to jar some break-ups when necessary.

No. 24 — [player_tooltip player_id='1080644' first='Solar' last='Tynes Jr.'] — 6-2, 270 DL/OL — Hammond

The big two-way lineman is now listed another 20 pounds heavier than the previous rankings update earlier this year and wears it well, operating with good balance and quickness to slip past blockers and into the backfield on defense or stay in front of defenders when working on the offensive side. Tynes possesses good length and does a nice job utilizing that attribute in his rush, getting extension and keeping opposing offensive linemen off his body until he's ready to rip or swim past them.

No. 23 — [player_tooltip player_id='1848450' first='Chris' last='Jones'] — 6-3, 255 DL — Loreauville

The big, athletic defensive lineman is one of two Loreauville teammates to debut in the top 50 of the latest rankings update. Jones appears on film to carry his weight well and pack an intriguing combination of power and mobility as he drives blockers backward, slings them aside and chases down opposing passers and ball-carriers behind the line of scrimmage.

No. 22 — [player_tooltip player_id='1618856' first='Darren' last='Coates Jr.'] — 6-0, 205 EDGE/LB — St. Augustine

A second St. Augustine standout in this range of the rankings, Coates isn't going to pop off the roster with his height, but he will live in opposing backfields with his explosive first step, the quickness and balance to beat most blockers to the outside and enough power and a tenacious motor to win some more physical duels. Coates, listed 10 pounds stronger in this update, debuted in the top 20 this past winter and holds fairly steady on the expanding list.

No. 21 — [player_tooltip player_id='1372189' first='Kenric' last='Johnson Jr.'] — 5-9. 155 ATH — Riverside Academy

Already a longtime Prep Redzone Louisiana favorite in the class, "Boogie" might not have the tall, long frame of the growing cast of receivers and defensive backs in the 2028 rankings, but he is one of the most versatile and dynamic players in the rankings and has the toughness, instincts and competitive mentality to play bigger than his measurables. Johnson consistently stands out as both a defensive back and a receiver and is also dangerous with the ball in his hands after the catch or out of the backfield.
