Prospect rankings always expand heavily during sophomore and junior years as prospects continue to develop and emerge at different rates.

Prep Redzone Louisiana released its latest 2028 rankings this past week, a list that doubled in size with dozens of new additions heading into sophomore year.

Here are a few notes on the 12 highest debuts ahead of the new high school season — all of whom factored highly enough in the rankings to have been featured in the countdown ahead of the rankings release.

No. 3 [player_tooltip player_id='1804134' first='Jacolby' last='Campbell'] — 6-1, 170 WR — Abbeville

No. 4 [player_tooltip player_id='1845260' first='Jarvis' last='Stevenson'] — 6-5, 190 WR — John Curtis

The first draft of 2028 rankings this past winter already featured some promising wide receiver talent high on the list. But one of the biggest takeaways from this offseason as more players emerged and more evaluation opportunities for film, 7-on-7, spring practice and college camps presented themselves was that this Louisiana class has the potential to be truly special and memorable at the position. And Campbell and Stevenson are two of the top tier of prospects to monitor early on near the top of the list.

No. 5 [player_tooltip player_id='1845257' first='Dalen' last='Powell'] — 6-1, 170 RB/ATH — Ruston

The Bearcats' sophomore had shown enough intriguing traits to warrant a top running back spot early in the development of the class with his combination of size and build, explosiveness, long speed and ball skills at the position. And the preseason performances the past couple weeks have continued to support that early confidence. Powell looks like one of the state's most notable breakout candidates with his potential to be a key, game-breaking weapon for a Ruston squad that should again be among Louisiana's best.

No. 7 [player_tooltip player_id='1802121' first='Raymond' last='Hughes'] — 6-5, 335 OL — Archbishop Rummel

No. 8 [player_tooltip player_id='1619260' first='Andrew' last='Shofstahl'] — 6-4, 315 OL — St. Paul's

No. 12 [player_tooltip player_id='1845258' first='Jordan' last='Collins'] — 6-4, 305 OL — Destrehan

The potential for a notable offensive line class coming out of Louisiana in 2028 was another of big takeaways from this offseason. And a trio of New Orleans area blockers enter their sophomore season as the new top tier of prospects in the position group early in the development of the class. Hughes, Shofstahl and Collins all bring a little something different to the table, but all look early like future FBS players who have already earned the trust to be relied upon in big roles by well-coached, title-hopeful Class 5A programs.

No. 9 [player_tooltip player_id='1397984' first='Zion' last='Batiste'] — 6-2, 160 WR — Lafayette Renaissance Charter

No. 30 [player_tooltip player_id='1851012' first='Javante' last='Broussard'] — 6-1, 170 WR — Northside

As previously mentioned, the potential of the wide receiver group looks likely to become a calling card for Louisiana's 2028 class. And a couple specific storylines on pass-catchers starting to look like a major theme for the class include the depth of talent and a budding group in the Lafayette area in particular that will further remind fans of the state's 2021 class which featured a top-flight receiver group that included Malik Nabers, Jack Bech and Keon Coleman. Batiste has already started to pop a bit on the recruiting trail among the early receivers to know in Louisiana's class, and Broussard is another intriguing prospect to keep an eye on this season.

No. 17 [player_tooltip player_id='1802167' first='Kameron' last='Grisby'] — 6-2, 175 DB — University Lab

No. 28 [player_tooltip player_id='1372216' first='Shadon' last='Lee'] — 6-0, 155 DB — Westgate

Wide receivers are headlining the early rankings for Louisiana's 2028 class as much as any other position group, but a few defensive backs have started to emerge as well. Long, lean U-High corner Grisby is one of the state's first defensive backs in the group to start receiving college offers. And Lee, a member of a talented class at Westgate, has started to look the part and stand out with some of his preseason performances heading into sophomore season.

No. 23 [player_tooltip player_id='1848450' first='Chris' last='Jones'] — 6-3, 255 DL — Loreauville

No. 26 [player_tooltip player_id='1845261' first='Jayden' last='Taylor'] — 6-4, 230 OL — St. Augustine

Another pair of prospects to watch in the trenches we haven't seen as much of yet, but who have shown some promising early traits in some freshman footage for Jones and preseason scrimmages for Taylor. Jones is already proving himself to be a big, disruptive force in the middle of the Loreauville front. And Taylor is a long, athletic blocker who has earned the trust to hold down St. Augustine's left tackle spot.
