The WCAC is regarded as one of the toughest high school football conferences in the nation every year. The Capital Conference, which features DeMatha, Good Counsel, Gonzaga, St. John's, and Bishop McNamara, is always ultra-competitive. I was able to find some available out-of-conference games for both DeMatha and Good Counsel. Neither team is ducking any type of smoke to start the season. Here's a look at some of the notable out-of-conference games for both teams.

ED O.B.'S THOUGHTS

DeMatha – They play St. Joe's Prep out of Pennsylvania. SJP is usually nationally ranked. They've also won so many state championships at the highest classification in Pennsylvania that I've lost count. I don't think these two teams have ever even scrimmaged each other. Imhotep Charter is consistently one of the top teams in the state year after year. Roman Catholic finished the 2024 season as runners-up in Pennsylvania's second-highest classification. Riverdale Baptist is more than a solid in-state opponent (8-0 record last season)

Good Counsel – Last season, they defeated Columbus, one of the top programs in their class from Florida, by a score of 14-10. Like DeMatha, they'll rumble with St. Joe's Prep. (on the road). After losing 28-17 to DePaul Catholic on the road last season, they'll get another crack at them at home this time around. DePaul Catholic finished with an 11-1 record last season. One of the top teams year in and year out, Middletown, will take on Good Counsel in a home game. Middletown won the state championship in Delaware's highest classification last season and finished with a record of 11-2. They'll face St. James (Louisiana), who finished with a 10-3 record last season.

I will have to revisit this article once DeMatha's full schedule is released. Both teams will be more than battle-tested by the time the WCAC schedule comes around.
