Scout’s Notebook: Wide Receivers from PRZ NXT MS Combine, Part 2

This was the case for [player_tooltip player_id='1544902' first='Malachi' last='McGregor']. McGregor showed that he has a strong proclivity for his hands, neglecting the use of his body to nab grabs... One of the next skills that coaches look for are how a receiver uses his head and shoulder fakes to create space on short routes ran within 6 yards. [player_tooltip player_id='1629396' first='Anthony' last='Palma'] did a great job doing such. Palma create space in short routes exercising such skill, and would have made solid, consistent plays, but he needs to convert the catch more consistently.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>If a receiver shows a burst, acceleration, and separation atop his route, he huge big-play potential and upside. Although I am unsure whether or not that was due to matchup or skill, Rhett's ability on that rep showed a different speed than what he ran during the 40-yard dash. Perhaps his game speed is faster than combine speed... The athleticism [player_tooltip player_id='628120' first='Cruz' last='Araujo']'s showed might just begin with his stance. At the line, I thought Araujo had very good bend, which he then turned into power when he ran his routes. This, combined with being one of the taller (6'1"-), long legs, allowed him to gain serious ground with each and every step he took. It seemed as though defensive backs were threatened with each bit of grass he gained.
